Overview
EQUANS are looking for a Mobile Mechanical Engineer working on behalf of our HMCTS contract at York Magistrates Court. This is a permanent full-time role, 40 hours per week. A competitive salary and benefits package is on offer.

Role summary
The primary purpose of the role is to carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide variety of Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering plant, ensuring all activities are completed safely, on time, and in accordance with contracted outputs and EQUANS processes. This includes Legionella control/monitoring and basic plumbing skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine PPM on mechanical and electrical plant in accordance with site task schedules and CAFM.
- Complete reactive tasks, identify areas for improvement, and maintain plant in serviceable order.
- Ensure suitable spares are available; provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial works.
- Complete relevant paperwork/CAFM for PPM, reactive, and breakdown works; pass to contract administrator promptly.
- Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for safe working practices.
- Develop good working relationships with EQUANS staff, subcontractors and client representatives.
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment; wear uniform and PPE at all times.
- Keep plant room and logs up to date; ensure high professional image of EQUANS to clients.
- Supervise and monitor subcontractors on site; arrange holiday and sickness cover; be flexible with working patterns; lone working where required after training.
- Action assigned tasks and maintain awareness of contractual KPIs/SLA
- Keep CAFM up to date and ensure timely closure of PPM and reactive tickets with accurate data
- Operate Permit to Work system in line with EQUANS SHEQ and client requirements
- Provide engineering support in emergency situations to ensure business continuity
Client / Customer
- Respond promptly to verbal and written requests
- Coordinate quotations with the contract manager
- Produce information for quotations
Helpdesk - PPM
- Support Helpdesk during reporting or updates of planned and reactive maintenance
- Be available for out-of-hours call-out support
Compliance & SHEQ
- Gain Technical Appointments as required (LVCP/LVAP/Mechanical/Pressure CP)
- Produce Condition/Dilapidation Reports as required
- Inform supervisor immediately if dangerous circumstances occur
- Comply with SHEQ information requests; follow health and safety policy; ensure PPE is safe
- Report accidents and near misses promptly; ensure equipment calibration stays up to date
- Follow Method Statements & Risk Assessments for all works
Impact
- Carry out Mechanical Engineering tasks; assist adherence to company quality standards and specifications; maintain and care for tools
- Wear appropriate clothing/uniform; keep work areas clean and tidy; manage company van per policy
- Coordinate materials; complete site documentation accurately and on time
- Carry out works to high standard; work with others to provide courteous service; undertake reasonable management requests
- Manage adherence to Planned and Reactive tasks; manage subcontractors in line with H&S legislation
Working pattern
Mon-Fri, 40 hours per week, with participation in the on-call rota
Complexity
- Fault finding, minor repairs and installation alongside general maintenance
- Ensure specialist subcontractor service visits are completed efficiently and quality checked
- Support engineers and operatives in the region; liaise with staff to carry out duties effectively
- As Mechanical lead, participate in broader FM maintenance activities when required
- Assist in preparation of company reports, worksheets, and SLAs
- Follow safety policy and notify line manager of safety concerns
- Demonstrate excellent communication, ability to work unsupervised, and accurate paperwork skills
- Helpdesk support available via smartphone; access to specialist tools and equipment
Safety
- Comply with SHEQ procedures; report risks, near misses, and incidents immediately
- Risk assess each job on site for safety
- Use appropriate safety equipment and PPE; ensure public protection measures are followed
- Be responsible for your safety and others

Qualifications and Experience
- Desired circa 5 years of Mechanical Engineer experience in an FM environment
- City and Guilds - Mechanical Engineering Services NVQ Level 2 or higher
- Excellent communication and ability to deal with all levels of staff
- Proactive and focused on high standards of operation
- Good IT and report-writing skills
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver to client time constraints
- High initiative and drive to continuously improve operations
- Strong communication and customer understanding skills
- Ability to understand and act on verbal and written instructions
- Proactive, diligent, and willing to participate in internal training
- Integrity, honesty and punctuality; valid UK driving license
