Job description

EQUANS is looking for a Mobile Mechanical Engineer to work on our HMCTS contract at York Magistrates Court. This is a permanent, full-time position, working 40 hours per week. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.

Role Overview:

The primary purpose of this role is to perform planned and reactive maintenance on Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering plant, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and according to contract specifications and EQUANS procedures. This includes Legionella control, monitoring activities, and basic plumbing skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Carrying out routine PPM on mechanical and electrical plant as per site schedules and CAFM system.
  2. Completing reactive tasks promptly and identifying areas for improvement.
  3. Swiftly remedying plant faults and defects to maintain operational order.
  4. Managing spare parts and providing parts lists and time estimates for remedial works.
  5. Completing all necessary paperwork, including PPM, reactive, and breakdown reports, promptly.
  6. Preparing and using Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safety.
  7. Building good working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and clients.
  8. Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing PPE and maintaining plant logs and plant rooms.
  9. Supervising subcontractors and providing cover for holidays and sickness at short notice.
  10. Undertaking lone working when required, after passing training.
  11. Supporting the contract with engineering expertise during emergencies.

Client & Customer Service:

  • Responding promptly to requests, coordinating quotations, and producing information for quotes.

Helpdesk & PPM Support:

  • Supporting the Helpdesk with maintenance reporting and updates, and being available for out-of-hours call-outs.

Compliance & SHEQ:

  • Gaining technical appointments, producing reports, and reporting dangerous circumstances immediately.
  • Adhering to SHEQ policies, reporting incidents, and ensuring safety equipment is in calibration.

Impact & Standards:

  • Carrying out Mechanical Engineering tasks to high standards, complying with specifications, and maintaining tools and site cleanliness.
  • Managing subcontractors and ensuring all work adheres to safety and quality standards.

Work Schedule & Complexity:

  • Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with participation in a callout rota.
  • Performing fault finding, repairs, installations, and supporting wider FM activities.

Safety & Qualifications:

  • Complying with SHEQ procedures, reporting incidents, and using safety equipment.
  • Desired experience: circa 5 years as a Mechanical Engineer in FM, with City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 or higher.
  • Excellent communication, IT, and report writing skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Valid UK driving license required.
