Job summary

APL Aerial Platforms Ltd is seeking a Mobile Engineer for a full-time, on-site role in Wigan. You will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on a range of powered access platforms and telehandlers, ensuring safety, reliability and compliance.

Qualifications

  • CAP qualification is required.
  • Technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, or plant engineering or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing powered access platforms, telehandlers or similar equipment with strong fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices in industrial environments.
  • Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites in the region.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and reactive maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on powered access platforms and telehandlers.
  • Attend customer sites for inspections and servicing to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Complete accurate service reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations to prioritise jobs and support colleagues with technical issues.
  • Assist with pre-delivery inspections and checks before hire; provide occasional out-of-hours support.

Role Description

The Mobile Engineer role at APL Aerial Platforms Ltd is a full-time, on-site position based in Wigan. The Mobile Engineer will perform routine and reactive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of powered access platforms and telehandlers, ensuring equipment safety, reliability, and compliance with relevant standards. Day-to-day tasks include attending customer sites to inspect and service machinery, identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults, and completing accurate service reports and documentation. The role also involves collaborating with the operations team to prioritize jobs, supporting colleagues with technical issues, and providing professional, customer-focused service. The Mobile Engineer may assist with pre-delivery inspections, equipment checks before hire, and occasional out-of-hours support to minimize downtime for customers.

Qualifications
  • CAP qualification
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) in mechanical, electrical, or plant engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience maintaining and repairing powered access platforms, telehandlers, or similar plant/equipment, with strong fault‑finding skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, safe working practices, and compliance standards in industrial and construction environments.
  • Valid UK driving license and ability to travel to customer sites in the region.
  • Effective communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and manage time and priorities.
