Job description

As a Mobile Chef Supervisor for Sodexo covering the Birmingham area, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of a fast-paced food and beverage operation across various school sites. You will take charge of food service delivery, showcasing meals in an eye-catching and appetising way, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and hygiene. In this dynamic role, you’ll also be responsible for managing kitchen operations and finances, ensuring the catering provision is among the best in the area. Your leadership will guide and motivate your team daily, fostering a positive, efficient, and supportive working environment. What you do:

  1. Manage the full catering operation, including labour, food, and stock costs.
  2. Monitor and optimise all controllable expenses to ensure cost efficiency.
  3. Oversee the replenishment of food and the dismantling of work areas at the end of service.
  4. Lead, mentor, train, and inspire the kitchen team to maintain high performance and morale.
  5. Ensure consistency in food quality and service standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  6. Develop and manage menus that meet nutritional, quality, and budgetary requirements.
  7. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and operational standards.

What you bring:

  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle, as travel to different sites may be required daily.
  • Proven expertise in large-scale cooking, serving anywhere between 100 to 1300 students.
  • Experience following recipes, preferably in a similar catering or school setting.
  • Previous experience in staff supervision or line management.
  • Skilled in working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Strong awareness of and adherence to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Professional attitude, leading by example with a positive outlook.
  • Basic food handling certifications such as:
    • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent)
    • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate
  • Minimum of 1 year hands-on cooking experience; training in Food Hygiene and Health & Safety will be provided.

Package Description

A role where you can bring your passion for food

  • £15.00 per hour
  • 30 hours per week
  • Working pattern: Monday - Friday; 8.00am-2.00pm
  • Term Time only (39-week Working Contract paid over 52 weeks)
  • This position requires a Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

ALL TRAVEL EXPENSES ARE REIMBURSED. Retention BONUS for all attached mobile roles – £200 on successful completion of 12 weeks, further £300 after 52 weeks.

**Equated pay (spread-over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks, and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of just during the months you work. This ensures equal monthly payments. Further information will be provided at interview stage.**
