Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking a Mobile Catering Assistant to work across different catering teams and deliver high-quality food and service in Gateshead schools. This is a part-time, term-time only role with a pro rata salary.

You will assist in the preparation, cooking and service of midday lunches, accommodating vegetarian and special dietary needs, while upholding high standards of customer care and cleanliness in line with LACA Professional Standards.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is required.
• Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace is required.
• Full clean UK driving licence and access to mobility is required.
• Experience relevant to the role is required.
• Experience in a similar position is preferred.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Flexible approach to work.
• Commitment to high standards.
• Good communication skills.
• Customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing a healthy nutritious mid-day meal for pupils and staff.
• Assist in preparation, cooking and service of mid-day lunch, including vegetarian and other dietary needs.
• Maintain high standards of customer care for pupils, parents, and school staff.
• Ensure thorough cleaning of kitchen premises, equipment, dining hall and tables.
• Complete relevant paperwork and bookwork as needed.
• Undertake other relevant tasks as required.
• Work in line with LACA Professional Standards.
• Other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.

The Property, Assets and Traded Services team are pivotal in the Council’s building, asset and estates management, keeping Council properties, including Schools, clean, safe and healthy for all who use them. Our wider teams also take care of planned preventative maintenance programmes and capital project management and delivery.

About the role

We require a Mobile Catering Assistant who has the skills, drive, and passion to work across various catering teams and deliver the highest quality of food and service. They must be able to adapt to various kitchens across the Gateshead Brough.

Please note, this is a part-time, term-time only post and the advertised salary is pro rata for the hours worked.

What you'll get to do

• Assist in the provision a high standard of customer care for pupils, parents, Head Teacher, and all members of school staff.
• Assist in the thorough cleaning of kitchen premises and equipment, dining hall and dining tables.
• Assist when necessary in completing any relevant paperwork / bookwork.
• Undertake any other relevant tasks.
• Work in line with LACA Professional Standards.
• Any other duties allocated that are appropriate to the grade of the post.
