Purpose of Job

A hands-on Refrigeration & Air Conditioning engineer is required to ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times with regard to critical building systems. The engineer will carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive and breakdown works on all R&AC units within the site. The candidate must demonstrate relevant knowledge of Chillers, CRAC units, Split A/C units, VRV’s and VRF’s, FCU’s, and AHU’s or equivalent, including fault-finding using graphical information and current alarm data.

The R&AC role is critical for contract support and ensuring plant availability, along with statutory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair R&AC units across various sites within set timeframes to meet customer expectations.
  • Respond to reactive call-outs as required.
  • Proactively undertake maintenance tasks as identified across the account and division.
  • Ensure effective H&S compliance and report breaches.
  • Carry out routine PPM in accordance with site schedules and asset lists.
  • Complete all logbooks and F-Gas registers to ensure legal and best practice compliance.
  • Manage spare parts availability and provide parts lists and time estimates for remedial works.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork and F-Gas registers promptly.
  • Prepare and use dynamic risk assessments for safe working practices.
  • Develop good relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing PPE and uniforms.
  • Present a professional image to clients.
  • Undertake lone working when trained and authorized.
  • Complete assigned tasks and ensure H&S compliance.
  • Meet contractual KPIs/SLA’s.
  • Participate in out-of-hours call-out rota.
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by management.
  • Ensure site engineering team produces near miss reports, risk assessments, and site activity records, escalating non-compliance.
  • Ensure tools and specialist meters are PAT tested, certificated, and compliant with legislation.
  • Estimate time and materials for quotations, supporting the Client Supervisor.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements before work commencement, understanding the scope of SSOW.

Accountabilities

  • Report to the Operations Manager, accountable to the Division Management Team.
  • No staff reporting directly to this role.
  • No direct budget responsibility.

Person Specification

Education

NVQ/C&G Level 2 (preferably Level 3) in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Fully qualified F-Gas engineer (C&G 2079 Cat 1).

Good basic education, with strong written and spoken English and basic Math skills.

Training

Fully trained and qualified F-Gas engineer (2079, CAT I).

Formal training in Electrical / Mechanical / Air conditioning / Refrigeration disciplines.

Experience (Essential)

Experience fault-finding, maintaining, and repairing various A/C types (Chillers, CRAC units, DX units, Split A/C units, FCU’s or equivalent), including mechanical and electrical equipment per defined criteria.

Character

Dedicated to delivering excellent customer service.

Calm under pressure, able to make sound decisions.

Physically fit to carry tools and components up to 20kg.

Able to work at heights and ascend/descend vertical access equipment.

Team player, able to collaborate with BGIS and client representatives at all levels.

Circumstances
