An established veterinary practice on the beautiful Isle of Man is seeking a dedicated vet, whether experienced or a recent graduate. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across a diverse range of cases, from small pets to larger farm animals. With a supportive team and a commitment to professional development, you will be able to expand your skills in a friendly environment. Enjoy the perks of living on an island with low taxation and stunning natural beauty, while making a real difference in animal care. If you are passionate about veterinary medicine and eager to grow, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
About Us
We are a mixed practice 65% small, 20% equine, 15% large. We see a lot of the usual cats, dogs, small furries, a few exotics, pet horses and competition horses, beef, dairy, sheep, pigs and poultry. We work with some animal charities on the island, including Mann Cat Sanctuary, IOM Greyhound League, Pets Aid League & The Manx Wildlife Trust. We see lots of hedgehogs, seabirds, rabbits, wallabies and many other species. We also assist in the rehabilitation of young seals. These partnerships offer our team a diverse and rewarding experience.
There are plenty of opportunities to grow your knowledge and skills with us. We have a highly experienced support network that provides professional and friendly assistance where no one is expected to deal with things alone.
We currently have digital xray, in-house laboratory equipment, endoscopy, small and large animal ultrasound. We are happy to invest in further equipment and CPD. We are currently exploring plans to expand our premises and add further equipment.
Being on an Island whilst we have referral options available to us our vets get the opportunity to work up their cases and develop their surgical skills in areas that would standardly be referred elsewhere.
The Isle of Man situated in the Irish sea between northern Ireland and North West England IOM is 33 miles long and 13 miles wide and is renowned for its rolling hills and natural beauty.
There are ferry links to Ireland and the North West of England and various air links to the UK and Dublin.
We have low taxation on the Island, meaning you will take home a larger portion of your salary than in an equivalent mainland position.
The Role
We are looking for a vet either with experience or a new or recent graduate. Our vet Ruth qualified in 2010 and started her career with us. She has completed her GDP advisor training and is keen, happy and committed to assist a new team member if they have not yet completed their vet GDP.
Whilst we require someone prepared to do a bit of everything there is scope to explore particular areas of interest with a mix of consults, operations and visits there is plenty of opportunities to grow your knowledge and skill base.
We work a 5 days week and in time will require 2 nights a week on call with support always available. You will not be required to have the on call phone any relevant calls are taken and passed on.
The Package
Testimonial from Lisa our vet who is returning to her hometown for family reasons.
"I have been working at Jane Callows Veterinary Practice for the last 5 years. I started as a new graduate mixed Veterinary Surgeon shadowing the experienced vets at the practice and progressed to independent work across all areas of mixed practice veterinary medicine with the knowledge that there is always someone to phone or back up if needed with on call work. If you feel that you would like to work in a traditional mixed practice, then Jane Callow Vets is the place to be. If you are new to veterinary medicine, then you will learn a lot of skills and knowledge from a supportive team here at Jane Callows.
It is also a bonus to be living on the beautiful Isle of Man. If you are an outdoors person, then there is plenty of lovely hikes and glens to explore around the Isle. Every year there are many events on throughout the various towns and villages across the Isle from Manx traditions such as Celtic gatherings and music to the biggest motorcycle event in the world, the Isle of Man TT. So there is lots to do and see if you get out there and explore and discover the Manx gem."
