This role suits a VAT/indirect tax specialist who can also cover corporate tax and employment taxes. This is a great opportunity to manage and support tax compliance, planning, and efficiency for the group. As part of the Finance team, the Tax Manager will take ownership of corporation tax and operational tax compliance and reporting. The role reports primarily to the Head of Tax and involves supporting and partnering with colleagues in the wider business, including the Finance and Investment teams, on overall group tax planning, tax aspects of transactions (both buy-side and sell-side), and general tax advisory projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Primary responsibility for preparation, review, and submission of UK VAT Returns, occasional SDLT returns, and review of overseas VAT returns prepared by service providers (e.g., Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and other jurisdictions in line with the growth of the Group).
  2. Coordination of overseas tax compliance work to ensure it is completed on time, acting as the main point of contact with finance managers and overseas advisers.
  3. Preparation, review, and submission of other applicable UK tax returns, including UK VAT Returns, SDLT, and review of overseas VAT returns.
  4. Assistance with implementing and maintaining transfer pricing policies and documentation across the group.
  5. Primary responsibility for handling tax audit enquiries in the UK and assisting with overseas tax audits.
  6. Providing expert advice and/or coordinating with external advisors on tax legislation and practices, ensuring compliance and up-to-date tax obligations (including transfer pricing, Payments on Account, CIR, SSE, etc.).
  7. Managing relationships with Group tax advisors and compliance service providers.
  8. Involvement in payroll tax matters, working closely with the Group’s People Team.
  9. Liaising with HMRC on tax compliance matters, such as new group companies and changes to VAT registrations.
