Job description

This is an excellent opportunity to join The Sandwell Colleges at a truly exciting time of growth, innovation, and transformation. As MIS and Data Transformation Lead, you’ll play a pivotal leadership role at the heart of a forward-thinking MIS and Exams team, deputising for the Director of Information Services and shaping the future of data strategy across our dynamic and ambitious college.

You’ll lead on cutting-edge digital data transformation projects, drive automation and reporting excellence, and ensure gold-standard compliance with funding and audit requirements. With our commitment to developing future leaders, this role is ideal for someone ready to step into a senior leadership pipeline, offering meaningful exposure to strategic decision-making, college-wide innovation, and the chance to help define what outstanding data practice looks like in FE.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a technical role, it’s a chance to shape how the largest FE college in the West Midlands, led by our new CEO and Principal Lisa Capper MBE, and her new team, uses data to transform practice, empower staff, and enhance the learner experience. You’ll gain visibility across the organisation and play a core part in the college’s strategic future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards for senior leaders, governors, curriculum and support teams
  • Write and optimise complex SQL queries and automate data pipelines across key MIS systems (EBS, ProMonitor, ProAchieve)
  • Support audit readiness, funding submissions, SARs and inspections through high-quality, validated reporting
  • Deputise for the Director of Information Services—leading on strategic meetings and project delivery as required
  • Mentor reporting analysts and lead best practices in data governance, digital innovation and performance reporting
  • Collaborate cross-college with Curriculum, Quality, Exams, Admissions and IT to drive data-informed improvements

To Apply:

If you would like to discuss this opportunity further, please send your CV and your expression of interest briefly explaining how your experience aligns with the role. We are hoping to review initial expressions of interest by 11th July, however the role is due to close formally on Friday 5th September. Early applications are encouraged as we may close the advert once a suitable field is identified.

No agencies, please.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in the FE sector managing complex datasets and MIS platforms
  • Advanced skills in Power BI, DAX, Power Query and modelling best practices
  • Expert proficiency in SQL Server (including stored procedures, indexing, and automation)
  • Proven experience supporting audits, ILR returns, ESFA, GDPR and Ofsted requirements
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights
  • A leadership mindset, with a willingness to take on strategic responsibility and line management
