The Minor Civils Engineer is a key part of the Special Projects team, repairing and replacing broken sewer chamber frames and covers, while adhering to BSI regulations.

Role Details

Position: Minor Civils Engineer

Location: Crawley Depot, Sussex Region (Crawley, West Sussex)

Job Type: permanent, full time

Hours: Monday to Friday, 50 hours per week (start times to be discussed at interview)

Salary: Competitive, depending upon experience

Responsibilities

• Ensure materials are stocked from the depot for all planned work (e.g., sewer chamber covers, cement, resin, tarmac)
• Prepare the boiler system for tarmac at the depot, ensuring the correct temperature is reached
• Conduct an onsite risk assessment, supported by appropriate photos
• Deploy traffic management as per processes and record evidence with photos
• Complete a service avoidance of the area for cables and services, documenting photos (CAT and Genny in particular)
• Repair and replace broken sewer chamber frames and covers following the SOP F&C PMMA step-by-step installation guide:
  • Remove defected sewer chamber cover using appropriate tools, with photographic evidence
  • Measure the area to cut, mark clearly, remove spoil and confirm with pictures
  • Lay the bed and frame ensuring it is level, supported by photos
  • Lay the resin, tarmac and chippings in accordance with the guide, with photos
• Ensure any waste left on site is cleared and confirmed with pictures
• Review any changes to Standard Operating Practise and adhere to amendments
• Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and responsibilities towards them
• Undertake any other reasonable ad-hoc duties requested by management
