Job summary

Millbrook Healthcare's Dorset Home Improvement Service is seeking an Adaptations Technician to join the team in Blandford Forum. You will carry out installations and adaptations in service users' homes across Dorset with a flexible, people‑focused approach.

Duties include assessments, installing grab rails and ramps, minor repairs, liaising with clients and coordinators, and ensuring works finish promptly with minimal disruption.

Qualifications

• Must have full UK driving licence (minimum 2 years).
• Excellent communication and empathetic approach with service users.
• General experience in carpentry or minor adaptation works a plus.
• Knowledge of building regulations and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Assess work requirements based on Occupational Therapist guidance.
• Install internal/external grab rails, handrails and related fittings.
• Carry out minor home repairs and build ramps as required.
• Liaise with clients to plan works and confirm rail heights.
• Ensure all works finish promptly with minimal disturbance.

Job description

We are currently looking for an Adaptations Technician to join the team within our Dorset Home Improvement Agency Service based out of our office in Blandford Forum. You will carry out a range of installations of items and make necessary adaptations within our service user's homes.

Millbrook Healthcare's award winning Home Improvement Service is dedicated to making suitable, fit-for-purpose adaptations to service user's homes which helps them to live more independently.

Ideally, we are looking for an experienced general Handyperson/Multi-skilled Tradesman who is good with people and can be flexible.

This role will involve travelling to various locations within Dorset where you will be responsible for carrying out adaptations within the service user's homes. Normal tasks may include but are not limited to:

• Assessments for how work can be completed, based on Occupational Therapist assessments
• Installing various types of internal and external grab rails, galvanized handrails and banister rails and other specialist equipment requiring fixing/installation to walls
• Carrying out a range of minor home repairs
• Building external small/medium concrete ramps and half steps
• Building of timber framed ramps with non-slip
• Small slab and brickwork alterations to steps or pathways
• Liaise with clients to discuss and advise on how the works required are to be carried out at the time of visit and for the position of rail heights to suit the user as requested
• Ensure all works are completed promptly and with the minimum disturbance for the clients
• Discuss with the coordinator details of any pre-work surveys that you have carried out for time and materials needed with administration personnel to ensure that all appointments made on your behalf are manageable in terms of projected job durations and skills required

Experience in a relatable environment and position

• Confident in the use of hand tools and ability to complete the task
• Excellent communication skills and empathetic approach with our service users
• Good attention to detail with a level of speed and efficiency
• Must be able to work off your own initiative as well as part of a team
• General experience in carpentry or minor adaptation works will be of benefit
• Knowledge of building regulations and safe systems of work
• Full UK driving licence (minimum of 2 years)

An annual salary of £30,487.55
