Job Summary

The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) is the MOD’s national civilian police force, protecting sites critical to Defence and US Visiting Forces within the UK. The MDP is an armed police force and provides specialist capabilities including marine policing, detection dogs and criminal investigation. MDP deploy police officers and civilians at locations in England and Scotland, with the Force Headquarters located at RAF Wyton near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

We have an exciting opportunity to join MDP Headquarters Change Team. The MDP HQ Change Team focuses on delivering new operational policing services through collaboration with partners, providing effective support and enabling clear through organisation communication.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

We are seeking applicants for the role of Project Manager to work with us in the delivery of digital and policing projects.As a Project Manager you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership to deliver wide-ranging projects. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management to ensure projects are delivered on time, safely, within budget, to the satisfaction of the customer and in line with the MoD governance framework.

You will deliver a full range of project functions such as establishing project plans, managing project risks and issues, project dependencies and managing the transition between project phases to deliver tangible outputs. You will also manage internal and external relationships to ensure project outcomes are delivered.

You will be part of a dynamic team, both as a leader of your project and part of the wider Change team. Our work varies, so you will need to be a great communicator, adapting your style to suit a wide range of situations and stakeholders.

This position is of a hybrid nature, requiring the successful candidate to work 37 hours per week with an anticipated allocation of 60% at the MDP Office at RAF Wyton and 40% through remote working from home.

Applicants must be vetted to ‘Security Clearance’ and may require ‘Police’ vetting at Recruit or Management level, dependent on assigned projects. They must also hold a current driving licence.

To meet national security vetting requirements, you must have resided continuously in the UK for a minimum five-year period immediately prior to your application to join MDP (with any absence from the UK being no more than six months during that time).

As a Project Manager, you will drive the delivery of several key activities aligned with our organisational strategic priorities.

Essential Skills

  • Proven track record in Project Management, preferably from successfully delivering a broad range of projects;
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, both verbal and written with an ability to engage teams and stakeholders;
  • Ability to work under pressure and be able to organise yourself and delivery teams to meet face-paced deadlines; and
  • You must also be able to demonstrate effective decision making and evidence team working.

Desired Skills

  • Hold or working towards a Project Management qualification (eg. PRINCE2, PMP Certificate.);
  • Experience in IT change projects.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
