This role is a permanent full-time position offering 37 hours per week. Requests for part-time or job share will be considered, based on business needs and reviewed annually. The salary will be pro-rata for part-time hours.

Please note that this role will be based at both dental centre Bicester, St Georges Barracks, Arncott, Oxon, OX25 0PP (3 days a week), and at dental centre Brize Norton, Carterton, Roman Way, Oxfordshire, OX18 3LX (2 days a week). The specific days can be decided once the role is offered.

Main duties of the job

At Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC), we are dedicated to providing excellent care to our entitled personnel.

Your overall aim is to maximise the deployability of the Population at Risk for whom you are responsible.

A MOD Dentist provides clinical outputs, manages dental health, and maintains operational fitness of service personnel.

Out of your 37 weekly hours, 2 hours may be allocated to non-clinical activities such as meetings, training, and admin. The remaining hours will focus on clinical duties aimed at improving and maintaining dental health and operational fitness of personnel.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspecting personnel at intervals according to NICE guidelines and providing follow-up treatment.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and acting in the best interest of patients.
  • Maintaining high standards in surgery management, documentation, consumable stores, data security, and equipment maintenance.
  • Referring personnel to specialists or consultants as appropriate.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Maintain evidence of clinical currency, undertaking operative primary dental care, with at least 2 clinical sessions per week over the last 15 months.
Qualifications and Memberships
  • Full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) without conditions. Provide registration number.
  • Evidence of foundation training or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Experience in military dentistry and primary dental care preferred.
  • UK driving license required.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development (CPD).
  • Willingness to contribute to staff development and utilize IT skills.
  • Participation in MOD Dentist performance management and quality assurance processes.
  • Availability for out-of-hours on-call duties if required.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.

Salary ranges from £57,853 to £95,587 per annum, pro-rata for part-time.
