Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to join a mining operation in Randburg. You will implement health and safety policies, conduct site inspections, identify hazards and ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act.

The ideal candidate has a National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, at least 3 years of experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to deliver safety training and risk assessments. First Aid certification is advantageous.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Safety Officer, preferably within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and related legislation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop practical safety solutions.
• First Aid certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify risks and hazards.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels of the organization.
• Ensure compliance with all South African occupational health and safety legislation and mining regulations.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage employee participation in safety initiatives.
