Job summary

Wiltshire College & University Centre is seeking a qualified Minibus Driver at the Lackham Campus to transport learners and staff on trips, events and activities across the college and wider community.

This role emphasises safety, reliability, and customer service, with vehicle checks, on-time travel, and adherence to safeguarding and Health & Safety policies. A permanent but flexible hours arrangement is offered along with college benefits.

Qualifications

  • A full, valid driving licence with Cat D1 entitlement and max 6 points.
  • Desirable prior minibus or passenger transport experience.
  • Commitment to passenger safety and responsible driving.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety checks and fault reporting.
  • Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, patient and approachable with passengers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the College minibus safely for learners and staff to destinations.
  • Plan routes and schedules; ensure on-time arrivals.
  • Provide a friendly, professional service to all passengers.
  • Carry out vehicle checks before/after use and report faults.
  • Maintain minibus cleanliness and good working condition.
  • Manage safety procedures during travel and journeys.
  • Record vehicle checks, journeys and incidents as required.
  • Communicate journey arrangements with Faculty staff.
  • Adapt to changes and support learners during trips.
  • Participate in staff development and maintain CPD.
  • Undertake First Aid duties when required.

Wiltshire College & University Centre is looking for a Minibus Driver to support the Faculty for Environment, Science & Enterprise with class trips, educational visits, events, and other activities across the college and wider community.

This is a varied and important role, helping learners access valuable experiences beyond the classroom while ensuring they travel safely, comfortably, and reliably. You’ll play an important part in supporting teaching and learning, providing transport for learners and staff to a range of destinations.

What You’ll Do
  • Drive the College's minibus safely and responsibly, transporting learners and staff to class trips, educational visits, events, activities, and other approved destinations
  • Plan and follow agreed routes and schedules, ensuring passengers arrive safely and on time
  • Provide a friendly, professional, and helpful service to learners, staff, and other passengers
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks before and after use, in line with college requirements
  • Complete any required vehicle safety and condition checks and promptly report faults or concerns
  • Keep the minibus clean, safe, presentable, and in good working condition
  • Ensure passengers follow appropriate safety procedures while travelling
  • Support learners appropriately during journeys and maintain a calm, patient, and approachable manner
  • Follow all College policies and procedures, including safeguarding, Health & Safety, and minibus driver requirements
  • Maintain appropriate records relating to vehicle checks, journeys, incidents, or other required documentation
  • Communicate effectively with the relevant Faculty staff regarding journey arrangements, timings, destinations, and any issues arising
  • Respond appropriately to changes in arrangements or unexpected circumstances during trips
  • Contribute to creating a positive and safe experience for learners during educational visits
  • Attend and participate in agreed College activities and relevant staff development
  • Maintain your own continuing professional development
  • Undertake First Aid duties when required
  • Carry out other duties consistent with the general nature and responsibilities of the role
What You’ll Bring
  • A full, valid driving licence with Cat D1 entitlement and no more than 6 current points.
  • Previous experience of driving a minibus or providing passenger transport would be desirable
  • A strong commitment to passenger safety and responsible driving
  • Good knowledge and understanding of vehicle safety checks and the importance of reporting faults promptly
  • A reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive relationships with learners and staff
  • A calm, patient, and approachable manner when dealing with passengers
  • The ability to drive confidently in a variety of locations and road conditions
  • An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and Health & Safety within an educational environment
  • The ability to work flexibly and respond to variable hours and changing trip requirements
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider College team
  • A willingness to undertake relevant training and maintain your continuing professional development
  • First Aid training, or a willingness to undertake First Aid training
  • A proactive and helpful approach, with a commitment to providing an excellent service to learners and staff
