Job description

Following its recent acquisition by SLR, Wardell Armstrong forms part of a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy working on projects across the world from over 100 offices. Starting as a UK business in 1994, SLR now operates as a global company with more than 3,500 people, delivering client-focused solutions across Europe, North America, Pacific Asia and Africa. Throughout this time SLR has strived to grow both organically and through welcoming other like-minded businesses, such as Wardell Armstrong, into its “One Team” of talented consultants. In doing so, its core objective is to assist clients and colleagues alike in “Making Sustainability Happen.”

The Opportunities:

We have a well-established Planning and Environment Team based in a number of offices across the UK, who deal with an impressive range of projects including renewable energy, waste, industrial, mineral and commercial and major infrastructure. We have an exciting pipeline of projects, particularly in renewable energy, including solar, battery and wind technologies.

We offer hybrid and flexible working in friendly environments.

The role will include:

  1. Providing advice and guidance on planning and environmental matters to a variety of clients including leading renewable energy developers, utility and infrastructure companies, waste management operators, house builders, land promoters, investment institutions, mineral owners and operators, and others throughout all stages of the planning process.
  2. Shaping and assessing the case for development projects, including determining planning strategies.
  3. Site appraisals.
  4. Pre-application consultation, preparing planning applications and appeals.
  5. EIA Coordination (alongside the EIA team).
  6. Planning project management including co-ordinating in-house and external technical teams.
  7. Community consultation.
  8. Local Plan representations.
  9. Fee proposal preparation and business development.
  10. Liaison with external parties, including developers, landowners, architects, engineers, and planning authorities.
  11. Team supervision and advice.

You:

Ideally you will have a minimum of 3 years experience with a relevant degree and be a chartered planner. You will have a strong track record working on medium / large scale planning projects and demonstrate a high level of technical competency, together with good analytical, communication, interpersonal, and writing skills. The role will require working on a number of projects, so a proven ability to manage your own time and workload within tight timescales, and ability to problem solve, is critical. Experience of Mineral Planning would be advantageous.

We offer:

  6. Inclusion in the Firm's Life Assurance Policy given as 3 times annual salary.
  7. Mobile Phone with inclusive tariff including personal usage.
  8. Flexi-Time Working Schedule.
  9. Long service awards.
  10. Cycle to Work Scheme.
  11. Travel Loans.
  12. Recruitment Bounty Scheme.
