Job summary
Applications are invited for the Mike Edmonds Diabetic Foot Clinical Fellowship (ST3+) in Diabetes and Diabetic Foot Medicine for 12 months, based at the Mike Edmonds Foot Unit at King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill. You will join a world-class team of multidisciplinary specialists in diabetic foot.
This fellowship is part of the King's Diabetes Fellowships scheme, which includes the Mike Edmonds Diabetic Foot Clinical Fellowship and the Stephanie Amiel Diabetes Care Transformation Fellowship.
King's Diabetic Foot Clinic was opened in May 1981. It has since expanded from caring for 300 patients per year to 3,000. The unit has dedicated diabetic foot beds on Oliver Ward for elective and emergency inpatient diabetic foot work. The new fellow is expected to lead outpatient and inpatient activities, including clinics, multidisciplinary meetings, and ward rounds. There are opportunities for continuous professional development, quality improvement, audit, and clinical research projects with the team and collaborators.

Job details:
The department primarily conducts outpatient activities but also manages diabetic foot complications with inpatient beds. Responsibilities include leading outpatient clinics, inpatient care, multidisciplinary meetings, and ward rounds. The department offers various clinics, including new patient, follow-up, nurse screening, annual reviews, antenatal, complication clinics, pediatric, adolescent, and patient education programs like DAFNE. The team manages over 200 insulin pump users and has a strong focus on intensive management of type 1 diabetes, particularly hypoglycemia. The department is actively involved in research on hypoglycemia, brain metabolism, diabetic foot management, and cardiovascular disease, alongside ongoing audits on diabetic emergencies and pregnancy.
