We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced midwife to join our Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU) team.

We are seeking a midwife who enjoys providing care for women accessing MAU for pregnancy-related concerns and can assess, plan, and implement care in a timely manner, working within a multidisciplinary team, to provide women with high-quality care 24 hours a day. It is a fast-paced unit with a high turnover, utilizing BSOTs (Birmingham Symptom-specific Obstetric Triage system).

Our MAU offers varied experiences, including the use of Dawes Redman, research with our prematurity team, hypertension clinic, ECVs, and scanning. Midwives keen to provide excellent care in collaboration with a wide range of healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, fetal medicine, and obstetric medicine teams, will do well in our environment.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 midwife eager to develop their clinical expertise in our Maternity Assessment Unit.

The post holder will:

• Work in accordance with the NMC rules and code of conduct for midwives.
• Maintain and develop their professional knowledge and competence in line with NMC recommendations.
• Work with the Trust policies and protocols, enabling all members of the practice to carry out care within these guidelines.
• Maintain high standards of care within their designated practice and assist in implementing recommendations from government and professional bodies related to maternity care.
• Work with the MPL in monitoring standards of care.
• Maintain effective communication and working relationships with other professional groups and staff within the Trust.
• Utilize the full skills of a midwife (both integral and extended) in providing care to women and their families.
• In liaison with the MPL, ensure that midwifery practice aligns with current research findings and is appropriate for each woman receiving care.
• Assume responsibility for the safe custody and administration of drugs according to policies and statutory regulations.
• Assist the MPL with coordinating clinical activities and 'act up' when required.
• Assist with orientation programs for new staff members.
• Supervise the work of non-midwife staff, including students.
• Maintain stores and equipment efficiently.
• Report complaints, incidents, and accidents, and assist in their investigation and resolution.
• Ensure safe working conditions in accordance with health and safety regulations.
• Be informed of the risk management strategy, report incidents, conduct risk assessments, and develop action plans to reduce risk.
