About the role

We're looking for a highly creative and experienced Designer to join a multidisciplinary team working across our digital bespoke editorial and special projects as part of the Product Design team. In this role, you will own projects and mentor other designers.

Working closely with Senior Designers and the Design Director, you'll shape how we tell stories digitally, working on innovative formats to create engaging experiences. You'll use our newspaper and supplements as references, challenging briefs and pushing boundaries to elevate our journalism. Collaboration with editorial desks and the visual journalism team is key, providing visual guidance to ensure excellence across all outputs.

Your role involves supporting and leading projects that exceed expectations, overseeing work across daily, weekly, and long-term outputs. You should be independent, detail-oriented, and experienced in stakeholder management. Passion for design and collaboration is essential, along with strong presentation skills to justify your decisions. You will interpret and implement creative visions across digital, print, social, and video formats.

You’ll be
  • Designing storytelling across platforms, utilizing new technologies to enhance visual narratives.
  • Leading art direction for digital features, ensuring stories are compelling online.
  • Collaborating with editors, illustrators, and picture desks to illustrate major stories.

  • Creating designs, animations, and directing stories to bring ideas to life.
  • Experimenting to find the best outcomes and eager to learn.
  • Managing a range of projects, balancing big and small, practical and experimental.
  • Working with teams and stakeholders to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Articulating and justifying your design decisions clearly.

  • Knowledge of social media platforms like Instagram Stories and Snapchat.

  • Solid experience with print and digital production processes.
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects).
