Job description

We’re looking for a Developer who can turn complex technical challenges into clear, maintainable solutions.

At true, we help organisations solve complex problems through thoughtful, well-executed digital products.

As a Midweight .Net Developer , you’ll be a trusted part of true’s Engineering team, helping us design, build, test and deploy thoughtful, robust digital products for our clients.

This isn’t a role for someone who only wants to pick up tickets and ship code in isolation.

It’s about understanding the problem, choosing the right technical approach, writing maintainable code, and contributing to the quality and reliability of the solutions we deliver.

Why this role exists?

We’re growing, and with that comes more ambitious, more complex client work.

We need someone who can:

  • Help us deliver well-structured, maintainable CMS solutions (Optimizely and Umbraco)
  • Support the team across planning, scoping, build, testing and deployment
  • Bring sound judgement to technical decisions, balancing quality, scalability and cost-effectiveness

You’ll work across client projects and retainers, collaborating with Lead Engineers, Front-end developers, Project managers, QA and wider agency teams to build solutions that are useful, stable and easy to evolve.

What you’ll be doing

  • Write reusable, well-considered, maintainable and extensible code across Optimizely/Umbraco CMS and associated .NET applications
  • Support the development of Optimizely/Umbraco CMS builds, upgrades, integrations and ongoing platform improvements
  • Work with Lead Engineers to turn requirements into clear development tasks and pragmatic technical solutions
  • Contribute to content modelling, CMS configuration, templates, components and editor-friendly functionality
  • Support integrations with APIs, third-party systems and Front-end applications, including headless or composable approaches where relevant
  • Help ensure our technical output is secure, performant, accessible and reliable
  • Accurately estimate pieces of work and use learnings from previous projects to improve estimates over time
  • Break technical work down clearly so it can be understood, planned and delivered by the wider team
  • Write and maintain clear, concise documentation for Developers, QA and project teams to follow
  • Review, test and refine your own work before handover, helping reduce rework and protect quality
  • Raise technical risks, assumptions and dependencies early, with enough context for others to make informed decisions
  • Develop and customise CMS features using .NET, C# and ASP.NET Core
  • Work with content types, page types, blocks, media, permissions and editor workflows
  • Support CMS builds and upgrades, including modern .NET approaches where appropriate
  • Contribute to headless or hybrid implementations using content delivery APIs, Optimizely Graph or similar approaches where required
  • Keep the content editor experience in mind, making sure technical solutions are usable for the people managing the site day to day
  • Work closely with the CTO and Lead Engineers to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Collaborate with Front-end developers to connect CMS functionality with responsive, accessible Front-end experiences
  • Partner with QA to support testing, bug fixing, regression checks and release readiness
  • Support project and account teams by explaining technical options clearly and contributing to scoping conversations
  • Work with IT or hosting partners where infrastructure, deployment or environment questions need technical input
  • Contribute to delivery ceremonies, stand‑ups, reviews and retrospectives with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset
  • Bring new ideas and process improvements to the team
  • Share learnings from projects so we keep improving how we build, maintain and support CMS platforms
  • Stay curious about new technologies, platform updates and development practices that could improve our work
  • Contribute to reusable patterns, documentation and standards across the development team
  • Help create a culture where code quality, maintainability and thoughtful technical decision‑making matter

What success looks like

  • Solutions are well-structured, maintainable and easy for clients to manage
  • Your work is delivered to a high standard, with clear communication around progress, risks and dependencies
  • Technical decisions are pragmatic, proportionate and aligned to client needs
  • You contribute positively to planning, estimation, documentation and continuous improvement
  • The team trusts you to take ownership of defined areas of work and follow them through carefully

What we’re looking for

Experience

  • Commercial experience building and maintaining digital products, websites or platforms using .NET and C#
  • Hands‑on experience with Optimizely CMS, ideally including CMS 12, content types, blocks, templates and editor workflows
  • Hands‑on experience with Umbraco CMS and apps
  • Experience working with APIs, integrations and structured content models
  • Agency or fast‑paced delivery environment experience would be a bonus

Capability

  • Good working knowledge of .NET, C#, ASP.NET Core and modern development practices
  • Able to write clean, reusable and maintainable code
  • Comfortable working with source control, code reviews, branching and deployment processes
  • Able to estimate work, communicate progress and raise risks clearly
  • Experience with modern Front-end tooling or frameworks such as Vue, NuxtJS, React, NPM, webpack or ESLint would be useful

Approach

  • Proactive, thoughtful and solutions‑focused
  • Comfortable asking good questions and navigating ambiguity
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the wider client or user need
  • Keen to learn, improve and contribute to the wider development team

You’ll thrive here if you…

  • Enjoy turning technical complexity into clear, workable solutions
  • Like working closely with Developers, QA, project teams and wider agency specialists
  • Care about the experience of both end users and content editors
  • Take ownership of your work and follow things through properly
  • Want to deepen your Optimizely/Umbraco expertise while contributing to real client projects

What you’ll get

  • Real responsibility from day one, with support from experienced Developers, Lead Engineers and the CTO
  • A clear path to grow your Optimizely/Umbraco, .NET and wider technical capability over time
  • Continuous learning through real project experience

Flexibility & ways of working

  • Bristol based with a hybrid working model
  • Core hours with flexibility around how you structure your day
  • Private healthcare (including mental health support)
  • Wellbeing initiatives and Active Teams programme
  • Pension with employer contributions
  • Life assurance cover
  • Regular team socials and events
  • Monthly agency meetups
  • Supportive, collaborative team culture
  • 25 days holiday a year
