Job description

Job Description

Portfolio Officer - Middle Office

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is "Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow" in Asia and beyond—focusing on infrastructure with sustainability at its core. Since beginning operations in Beijing in 2016, AIIB has grown to 110 approved members worldwide. The bank is capitalized at USD 100 billion and holds a AAA rating from major international credit agencies. AIIB collaborates with partners to meet client needs by unlocking new capital and investing in green, technology-enabled infrastructure that promotes regional connectivity.

The Portfolio Management Department (PMD) is responsible for monitoring AIIB-funded projects, providing administration, risk management, and quality assurance for the bank's portfolio, which includes sovereign-backed and non-sovereign-backed projects. The department manages and refines investment processes to ensure timely project implementation aligned with international best practices, high-quality standards, compliance with bank policies, and achievement of strategic goals.

The Portfolio Officer - Middle Office reports to the Senior Portfolio Officer and the Head of PMD's Middle Office. This role is crucial in providing administrative, technical, and para-legal support to client-facing Portfolio Officers within the Project and Asset Management team, while delivering excellent service to the bank’s clients.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Head of MO in establishing, maintaining, and innovating Middle Office systems, processes, and procedures to enhance service quality, efficiency, and risk reduction.
  • Assist client-facing POs and project teams in assessing investment performance, reviewing compliance, processing payments, mitigating risks, recovering project-related expenses, and identifying opportunities for portfolio improvement.
  • Ensure clients adhere to contractual obligations, especially timely submission of reports.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain accurate project data and documentation for management reporting.
  • Support initiatives to improve PMD’s interaction with other units and develop systems for credit administration.
  • Liaise with other bank departments as needed.
  • Document lessons learned and operational insights to improve bank operations and systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of MO.
Requirements
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in portfolio supervision of private infrastructure projects at international banks or multilateral agencies.
  • Understanding of the Middle Office role in portfolio management and its value proposition.
  • Proven ability to resolve operational issues under pressure.
  • Experience managing financial models and conducting sensitivity analyses; building and auditing models is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to synthesize complex issues clearly.
  • Experience in deal origination, project structuring, and negotiation is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience working in Asia or similar regions (Middle East, Central Asia) is a plus.
  • Master’s degree in economics, finance, business administration, international relations, or related fields, or equivalent experience.

AIIB values diversity and is committed to transparency and merit-based recruitment. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, nationality, ethnicity, or background. Past experience and qualifications will determine the grade and job title for successful applicants.
