A well-established design and fit-out business with over 50 years of industry experience is looking to recruit a Mid Weight Interior Designer to join their growing team near Portsmouth. With an anticipated turnover of £10 million this year, the company specialises in high-quality commercial and workplace fit-outs, delivering projects ranging from £250,000 to £5 million, 90% of which are located across the South of England. The business currently employs 23 staff and continues to grow, making it an exciting time to join.

his role is ideal for a confident designer with a solid background in commercial interiors, capable of running smaller projects independently or supporting senior designers on larger schemes. You'll be involved in the full design process, from concept development to technical detailing, with a strong focus on creativity, functionality, and commercial awareness.

The company recently moved into a modern, state-of-the-art office space, complete with amenities such as a gym and café. This role offers excellent growth potential within a dynamic and well-respected team.

Mid Weight Interior Designer Job Overview
  • Lead small to medium-sized commercial projects, from concept through to completion.
  • Create and deliver compelling design presentations, including concept visuals, mood boards, 3D renders, and space planning that clearly communicate the creative direction.
  • Run client-facing workshops and presentations with confidence, clearly articulating design rationale and gathering feedback to inform the next stages.
  • Develop full drawing packages across all project phases (concept, tender, construction), including bespoke joinery, lighting layouts, and technical elevations, while managing supporting documentation such as schedules and action lists.
  • Coordinate closely with clients, suppliers, and contractors on materials, FF&E specifications, compliance matters (e.g., Building Regs), and procurement, while staying informed on trends and innovations in commercial design.
Mid Weight Designer Job Requirements
  • Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of industry experience, ideally within the commercial fit-out or workplace design sector.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign). Revit experience is an advantage.
  • Strong skills in 3D visualisation and presentation design.
  • Excellent knowledge of materials, finishes, and FF&E selection.
  • Strong understanding of commercial interior design workflows and project delivery.
  • Confident presenting to clients and liaising with suppliers and contractors.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage time effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
Mid Weight Interior Designer Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 depending on experience.
