Gravitas Recruitment Group (Global) Ltd is supporting a leading global insurer in London to recruit a Middle Market Underwriter for their UK Commercial Lines team.

You will evaluate renewals, price coverage and terms, build relationships with retail brokers, and contribute to a compliant underwriting strategy that supports profitability.

Qualifications

• At least 3+ years of P&C underwriting experience.
• Significant middle market underwriting experience, ideally with multinational exposure.
• Established relationships with retail producers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prioritization and evaluation of existing business and renewals to identify profitable opportunities.
• Price and analyze coverage, structure and exposures on individual risks.
• Set appropriate terms and conditions per underwriting strategy to bind qualified risks.
• Attend client/broker meetings and related events as applicable.
• Apply underwriting pricing discipline to meet profitability goals and comply with guidelines.
• Expand portfolio by nurturing existing relationships and pursuing new prospects.
• Support a risk-aware, compliant underwriting culture across the team.
• Monitor governance, risk, and escalation processes as required.
• Complete underwriting referral applications for risks outside your authority.
• Assist with audits and higher-level approvals when necessary.

Our client a leading global Insurer is looking to add a new Middle Market Underwriter, in their UK Commercial Lines team. The Middle Market Underwriting team offers diverse multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and life science. They work through a network of retail brokers who share their commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition.

What you’ll be doing:

• Prioritization and evaluation of existing business and renewals to identify those accounts that provide the greatest opportunity for profit consistent with the business plan and corporate profit objectives.
• Price and analyze coverage, structure and exposures on individual risks.
• Set appropriate terms and conditions per the Company underwriting strategy and guidelines to bind qualified risks.
• Attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners and other social outings as applicable.
• Exercise proper underwriting pricing and discipline to meet profitability goals, complying with underwriting guidelines, systems and procedures.
• Expand existing portfolio of business by developing existing relationships and new prospective clients.
• Supports our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture.
• Emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite.
• Conducts individual account underwriting audits as needed.
• Complete underwriting referral applications for risks outside of your authority for higher level approval as necessary.

What you’ll bring:

• At least 3+ years of P&C underwriting experience.
• Significant experience within the middle market space, ideally with experience of Underwriting multinational business.
• Established relationships with retail producers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills.
