The Microsoft DevOps Engineer designs, implements and supports secure, resilient and automated Microsoft Azure platforms. The role owns CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, cloud operations, monitoring and continuous improvement, working closely with infrastructure, security, application and project teams to accelerate reliable technology delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Azure Cloud Engineering
- Design, deploy and manage Microsoft Azure environments in line with approved architecture and governance standards.
- Support Azure landing zones, networking, compute, storage, backup and disaster recovery services.
- Optimise cloud platform performance, resilience, capacity and cost.
DevOps & Automation
- Design and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines using reusable YAML templates.
- Automate infrastructure and application deployment using Terraform, Bicep or ARM templates.
- Manage Git repositories, branching controls, pull requests, artefact versioning and release processes.
- Develop PowerShell, Azure CLI and workflow automation to reduce manual operational effort.
Monitoring & Reliability
- Implement monitoring and alerting with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and Application Insights.
- Investigate platform and deployment incidents, complete root cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
- Maintain operational dashboards, service documentation and platform health reporting.
Security & Compliance
- Embed DevSecOps controls, secure coding checks, secrets management and vulnerability remediation into delivery pipelines.
- Apply least privilege, RBAC, Entra ID, Conditional Access and Privileged Identity Management controls.
- Support security reviews, audits and compliance requirements, including ISO 27001-aligned practices.
Collaboration & Improvement
- Partner with developers, infrastructure, security, data and business teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Contribute to Agile planning, technical design reviews and release readiness activities.
- Maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, standards and knowledge articles.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve reliability, delivery speed and operational efficiency.

Experience & Qualifications
- Three to five or more years of Azure, cloud engineering or DevOps experience.
- Practical experience building and supporting Azure DevOps pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud infrastructure, identity, networking and deployment tooling.
- Experience working within Agile, change-controlled and security-conscious enterprise environments.
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert is desirable.
- Terraform Associate and ITIL Foundation certifications are desirable.
- Experience designing and supporting enterprise database structures and data models.
- Strong understanding of relational database design principles, normalization, indexing, and data integrity.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database administration.
- Knowledge of data platform architecture including transactional, reporting, and analytical workloads.
- Experience designing data integration solutions between ERP, CRM, HR, and business systems.
- Ability to create and maintain logical and physical data models, entity relationship diagrams (ERDs), and data dictionaries.
- Experience implementing data governance, security, retention, and auditing controls.
- Understanding of modern Microsoft data platforms, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience supporting reporting and analytics solutions using Power BI.
