The Role

We are partnering with a leading organisation to recruit a DevOps Developer to join its Digital Technology DevOps team.

This is a hands-on development role responsible for delivering small to medium-sized application changes, enhancements and fixes across digital platforms.

Working within the DevOps team, you will bridge application development and live service operations. You will design, develop, test, deploy and support maintainable solutions, while assisting DevOps Engineers with deployment pipelines, monitoring, incident investigation, operational tooling and service improvement.

The role would suit a developer who is building their commercial experience, is eager to learn and has a particular interest in Microsoft Azure, automation, observability and reliable digital services.

Key Responsibilities
Development & Delivery
  • Deliver small to medium-sized application changes, enhancements, defect fixes and technical improvements.
  • Design, develop and maintain secure, performant and supportable web applications and services using .NET and C#.
  • Work across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, estimation, design, development, testing, deployment, hypercare and break-fix support.
  • Integrate applications with internal and external services using REST, SOAP or GraphQL APIs where appropriate.
  • Work with Product, Development, Test, Architecture and Service teams to clarify requirements and deliver solutions that meet agreed standards.
Engineering Quality & Best Practices
  • Write clean, maintainable and testable code using established coding standards and design patterns.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools appropriately while retaining accountability for security, correctness and code quality.
  • Create and maintain unit and integration tests and support automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Submit changes for peer review and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Participate in pairing and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation, support notes and runbooks for solutions delivered.
DevOps & Operational Support
  • Assist DevOps Engineers with building, improving and supporting deployment pipelines and routine automation across production and non-production environments.
  • Support application deployment, release validation, monitoring and optimisation using Azure DevOps, GitHub, Azure Portal, Azure App Service and Dynatrace.
  • Help investigate incidents, requests and recurring application issues, contributing code fixes, diagnostic information and root-cause analysis under guidance.
  • Identify issues affecting service levels, application stability, security or performance.
  • Contribute practical improvements to alerts, dashboards and runbooks.
  • Ensure delivered changes are supportable in live environments, with appropriate documentation, testing, risk assessment and handover.
  • Participate in the shared out-of-hours on-call rota as an application support escalation point, in line with team arrangements.
Agile Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in sprint planning, refinement, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Break work into manageable tasks and communicate progress, risks and dependencies clearly.
  • Collaborate with Development teams to reuse standards and components and seek specialist guidance where required.
  • Keep technical knowledge current through training, practical delivery and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop knowledge across Azure, secure software engineering and DevOps practices.
  • Suggest incremental improvements to developer experience, application security, observability, performance and team processes.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Unreviewed Pull Requests – percentage of Pull Requests that are not peer reviewed.
  • Median Cycle Time – how long it takes a ticket to move from an Active state to Done.
