Job description

Sword is a leading provider of business technology solutions within the Energy, Public and Finance Sectors, driving transformational change within our clients. We use proven technology, specialist teams and domain expertise to build solid technical foundations across platforms, data, and business applications. We have a passion for using technology to solve business problems, working in partnership with our clients to help in achieving their goals.

About the role

As a Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Consultant, you will work closely with our customers to design, implement and optimise Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online solutions, supporting digital transformation, data migration and information governance initiatives.

Working within our Data Services team, you will support organisations across the Energy sector, helping them modernise their information environments, migrate legacy content and establish secure, well-governed collaboration platforms.

This is a hands-on consultancy role combining solution design with technical delivery, with a strong emphasis on SharePoint information architecture, Microsoft Purview and information governance. You will work directly with customers to design and implement secure, compliant Microsoft 365 environments, while supporting complex data migration and modernisation programmes.

As the Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Consultant, you will:
  • Work directly with customers to understand business requirements, assess existing environments and recommend appropriate Microsoft 365 and SharePoint solutions.
  • Design and implement SharePoint Online environments, including site architecture, document libraries, metadata, taxonomy, content types and permissions.
  • Lead and deliver migrations from legacy file shares and SharePoint environments into SharePoint Online, using tools such as ShareGate and Microsoft migration tooling.
  • Design and implement information governance and compliance solutions using Microsoft Purview, including sensitivity labels, retention policies and data classification.
  • Develop migration strategies covering discovery, data assessment, information architecture, security, testing and cutover planning.
  • Establish SharePoint governance frameworks to support effective information management, secure collaboration and ongoing platform management.
  • Use PowerShell and PnP scripting to automate migration activities, site provisioning and administrative processes.
  • Advise customers on Microsoft 365 best practices, including information security, access management and Copilot readiness.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders and end users throughout solution design, implementation and adoption.
  • Produce solution documentation, provide technical guidance and support the successful transition of solutions into operational use.
Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft 365 / SharePoint professional who combines strong technical expertise with a consultative approach to solution design and delivery.

You will bring:

  • Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing SharePoint Online solutions within Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Proven experience planning and delivering SharePoint and file-share migrations, including the use of ShareGate or equivalent migration tools.
  • Practical experience designing SharePoint information architecture, including metadata, taxonomy, content types, site structures and permissions.
  • Hands-on experience configuring Microsoft Purview capabilities, particularly sensitivity labels, retention policies, data classification and information protection.
  • Experience developing and implementing information governance frameworks and Microsoft 365 best practices.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting skills, ideally including PnP PowerShell, to support automation and migration activities.
  • Experience working directly with customers or business stakeholders to gather requirements, lead technical discussions and translate business needs into practical solutions.
  • A good understanding of Microsoft 365 security, compliance and access management.
  • The ability to take ownership of technical delivery, from initial discovery and solution design through to implementation and handover.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to provide technical recommendations and challenge requirements where appropriate.

Experience with Power Automate, Microsoft Teams governance, Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness or wider Microsoft 365 transformation programmes would be advantageous.
