Job Purpose

The Haleon Oral Healthcare R&D team supports the development of leading global brands in Consumer Healthcare. As part of the OH Microbiology Research team, the Microbiology Scientist will handle all microbiological aspects of R&D projects. Reporting to the Microbiology Research Team Leader, this role provides microbiology testing, knowledge, and expertise to support new product development, innovations, methods, claims, and technology programs that drive growth. Collaboration with teams across NPD, Innovation Research, Regulatory, Medical & Scientific Affairs, and manufacturing microbiology is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage R&D projects by providing microbiological input throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring microbiology quality by Design (QbD) principles and compliance with regulatory standards.
  2. Ensure microbiology testing is integrated into project plans, with results delivered timely and following GMP and SOPs.
  3. Identify innovative capabilities to support product launches, microbiological claims, and visualizations.
  4. Conduct a broad range of microbiological research and testing, aiming to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  5. Develop test plans using Design of Experiments (DoE) principles to generate robust data for new launches.
  6. Maintain adherence to laboratory procedures, record keeping, and sample handling protocols.
  7. Review microbiology data, identify issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement CAPA.
  8. Support quality and EHS practices, and participate in audits and inspections.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology.
  • Knowledge of microbiology, industrial microbiology, oral microbiology, biofilms, antimicrobials, and preservatives.
  • Experience in microbiology laboratory research and testing, with independent experiment design skills.
  • Understanding of product development processes and microbiology requirements within quality frameworks is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and collaboration skills, with technical expertise.
