Job description

Working in a state-of-the-art food testing laboratory, the purpose of this role is to complete, to the required quality standards, the analysis of samples using laboratory techniques.

Please note this is a full-time role working 38.5 hours per week with a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern:

Week 1: 09:30 – 21:00

Week 2: 10:30 – 22:00

  1. Sub-culturing, plate reading, confirmations, and validation of analytical results as required.
  2. Run equipment required for analysis such as PCR, Pathatrix, and ELISA.
  3. Report results in accordance with the methods of analysis and customer requirements.
  4. Maintain turnaround time at > 99%, ensuring daily targets are achieved.
  5. Familiarity with laboratory FGS software to understand and implement processes related to sample/test data entry.
  6. Ensure all appropriate paperwork is filled out daily.
  7. Conduct and record Media QC, raising and documenting any non-conformances.
  8. Raise non-conformance issues, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  9. Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation and maintain a safe working environment.
  10. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the workspace, including proper waste disposal following guidelines.
  11. Understand and adhere to the Laboratory Quality Manual to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  12. Operate in accordance with UKAS accreditation standards.
  13. Report issues to the Line Leader/Team Leader.
  14. Provide high-quality internal and external customer care by ensuring accurate and timely results.
  15. Follow documented procedures in the Quality System, ensuring proper handling and recording of samples and data.
  16. Be flexible to assist other departments when required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Degree in relevant science area
  • Experience working in a team
  • On-the-job training provided, no prior experience required
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Able to self-motivate
