Job summary

Eurofins UK Environment Testing in Sheffield is seeking a diligent laboratory analyst to perform microbiological testing of water samples, record results and ensure reporting meets company standards.

You will work with the team to maintain safety, quality procedures and timely turnaround, training others where required, and supporting continuous improvement while handling confidential data.

Qualifications

  • Maths, English, Chemistry or Biology at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing methods and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in the food or water sector.
  • Experience working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good laboratory skills and practices.
  • Computer literate.
  • Enthusiastic and able to work efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation skills.
  • Good communication skills and a team player.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing analysis, identify colony morphologies for all test types.
  • Enter results into the Laboratory IT system and ensure correct reporting.
  • Work with quality procedures and custody records.
  • Support daily quality tasks such as calibration checks and quality checks.
  • Ensure timely turnaround and confidentiality in reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members and assist training where required.
  • Maintain aseptic, clean working environment and high hygiene standards.
  • Take responsibility for training records and continuous improvement.

Job Description

Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship. 37.5 Hours per week.Wednesday - Sunday 07:00 - 15:00.

Purpose of the post:

Responsible for the analysis of water tests through plate reading and confirmation techniques inclusive of authorisation and reporting of results in line with company protocol. Working closely with other departments to ensure testing timelines are met. Working in line with our Health, Safety and Quality procedure to deliver accurate results in a safe, clean environment.

  • Perform microbiological testing analysis, able to identify colony morphologies for all test types carried out by the department, including Legionella and a range of Bacti tests. Able to train others.
  • Able to complete further confirmatory work on suspect colonies where required and be able to train others.
  • Enter results into the Laboratory IT system and ensure the correct result is calculated for reporting.
  • Work in line with our quality procedures to complete all aspects of your work.
  • Support with daily quality tasks such as calibration checks, Daily Process Controls, Internal and external quality checks and custody record completion.
  • Work with the team to ensure all result validation and reporting is completed each day in accordance with the methods and customer requirements. All results reported must be accurate and free from error so attention to detail is important.
  • Use the reports available to ensure work is entered at the correct time and any overdue is actioned appropriately where required.
  • Complete non-conforming work and carry out root cause analysis to problem solve.
  • Provide a high level of internal and external customer care by ensuring all results are delivered accurately and on time. Adhere to confidentiality agreements in place with our customers.
  • Collaborate with other team members and show flexibility to help meet demand and achieve the required turn around time ensuring results are reported on time.
  • Adapt an aseptic approach to your working environment and ensure cleanliness and hygiene levels remain at a high standard.
  • Take responsibility for your own training records to gain full competency in the tasks you perform and to keep abreast of any updates required. For flexibility this could include tasks from other areas.
  • Understand the concept of 5S and adhere to the principles set within your area. Along with following lean production standards.
  • Work with the team to drive the department forward through continuous improvement.
  • Work with the team to ensure that all waste generated is removed from the lab via the correct waste streams and seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Undertake any other reasonable task or responsibility requested by a senior manager.
