Job summary

Barnardo's is recruiting a Mental Health & Wellbeing Support Worker to provide non-clinical, social care–focused support to children, young people and families in emergency departments across four Black Country hospitals.

You will work alongside NHS and CAMHS teams to prevent escalation, build resilience and help families access community services, contributing to safer transitions and improved outcomes for children and young people in crisis.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 4/5 or equivalent desirable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Ability to engage with diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with children, young people and families on a one-to-one and group basis.
  • Complete assessments, action plans, safety plans and risk assessments.
  • Deliver short and medium-term interventions to promote resilience and wellbeing.
  • Support access to appropriate community services and advocate for voices of young people.
  • Develop robust referral pathways and discharge packages with partners.
  • Apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and escalate concerns.
