Job Description

We are currently looking for an Academy Lead to join our People Function within the Corporate group.

This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. The role will be based in either 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU, or South Mimms, Hertfordshire. Please note that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites. We are implementing a flexible, hybrid working model with a minimum of 8 days per month on-site to facilitate collaboration and stakeholder engagement. Attendance may increase up to 12 days per month depending on business needs, with the rest of the time worked remotely or in the office.

Who are we?

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) enhances and improves the health of millions daily through effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, supported by science and research.

The People function is part of the Corporate Group, alongside Finance, Commercial, Infrastructure, and Laboratory Services, led by the Chief Finance Officer. The People function itself is led by the Chief People Officer, a member of the Unitary Board.

In 2022, we launched our People Strategy focusing on attracting, developing, and retaining talent; valuing diversity; promoting wellbeing; investing in a healthy culture; and enabling excellent performance and delivery. This strategy aims to foster effective partnerships between the Agency and its staff to achieve public health outcomes.

What’s the role?

The Academy Lead will oversee the full learning process, including scope, design, delivery, and evaluation of Academy programmes. Initially, they will develop standards for the qualification and development of Assessors and other regulatory professionals. As a senior member of the People Team, they will lead a team to develop curriculum and learning content using a blended approach, ensuring robust assessment processes. The role involves collaboration with subject matter experts from within the business.

The workforce is highly qualified, comprising doctors, pharmacists, PhD scientists, and data scientists, many with pharmaceutical industry experience. The challenge is to develop a modular, agile curriculum that accounts for prior learning and utilizes our new learning management system effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Expert Advisory Panel and subject matter experts to establish learning standards for key professions.
  • Drive the development of a modular learning framework aligned with these standards, sourcing or creating relevant learning content.
  • Ensure the learning experiences are engaging, learner-centric, and cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Manage multiple learning projects simultaneously, overseeing planning and implementation.
  • Implement systematic evaluation and review processes to maintain quality and incorporate latest best practices.
  • Collaborate on commissioning and managing the MHRA Learning Management System to support learning delivery and assessment tracking.
Who are we looking for?

Our successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant CIPD Level 7 qualification in learning and development or equivalent experience.
  • Proven skills in designing successful learning programmes aligned with organizational priorities, collaborating with subject matter experts.
  • Experience in evaluating learning effectiveness and using data to improve programmes.
  • Extensive experience in commissioning learning interventions and managing projects.
