Westinghouse UK provides Nuclear Fuel and Intermediate products to National and International Customers. With the recent change in global economics, the world market has changed, along with increased interest in Nuclear Power across the globe. This brings new growth to the Springfields Preston site. The industry is experiencing growth at a rate which has not been seen since the start of the nuclear age. New and exciting challenges are ahead with the industry pushing for continual development of new products while maintaining to provide for its current customer base. To allow us to provide this fuel to the strictly regulated industry, we must ensure the material we produce is to the highest standards. The analytical Laboratories at Westinghouse UK are an integrated part of this process and provide Quality Control and Assurance testing to its internal and external customers' needs, whilst providing quick turnaround process control analysis to maintain plant operations. To support the company's increased production and development projects, there is a need to increase our laboratories capabilities to match our production plants.

As a Metrologist Technical Manager, you will work within our non-commercial UKAS calibration laboratory and provide specialist support and advice to the Process Owner / Gauge Design / Plant QAs.

You will also be involved in Growth projects to benefit our internal customers (production inspection areas) and provide support performing calibration, first principles and with a selection of machines within the area.

You will report to the Material Analyst and be located at the Springfields Fuel site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calibration of digital and manual gauges to drawing/specification
  • Record data and produce reports following industry standards
  • Work to UKAS accreditation standards, ISO17025:2017
  • PT / Inter-lab owner / lead
  • Load & Torque technical lead
  • Help with external calibration management
  • Approve Signatory / Authorising results
  • Work in compliance with the company Health and Safety Policy and building Safety Case
  • Return of gauges to the operational areas by the authorized route
  • Result authorization and release
  • Work with CMM dedicated software to program for specific gauges against drawings
  • Support the Calibration Laboratory in delivering a safe service to the production plants.

Qualifications:

  • HNC, HND, BTEC, HTEC in appropriate metrology, engineering or scientific subject, craft apprenticeship, or suitable work-based experience with typically at least 10 years relevant experience.
  • Suitable relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
  • Experience of working in a calibration role, working with CMM dedicated software, writing and editing programmes.
  • An understanding of the requirements for UKAS Accreditation to ISO 17025.
  • Knowledge of CMM and gauge management systems.
  • A good mechanical aptitude is necessary, with dimensional / mechanical experience.
  • Previous experience working to specifications and standards.
  • The candidate must be able to interpret Engineering drawings with an understanding of Geometric Tolerances.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience working within the nuclear industry
  • Approved Signatory Status (Active)
  • Torque and Load experience
  • Experience in UKAS / Customer Audit visits
  • Uncertainty Budget development experience
