Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Metrology Technician to join a growing advanced manufacturing business developing high-performance metal components using cutting-edge manufacturing technologies.

Based on-site in Abingdon, you will support the inspection and measurement of complex components throughout the manufacturing process. Working closely with Metrology, Quality and Operations, you'll help ensure components are measured accurately, efficiently and in line with quality and traceability requirements.

This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, consistency and the ability to follow defined processes are essential. Extensive metrology experience isn't essential, with training available for someone who has the right technical aptitude and willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate automated and semi-automated metrology and testing equipment, running established measurement programmes and inspection routines.
  • Support structured light scanning and tensile testing, with potential exposure to CMM, XCT and optical measurement equipment.
  • Follow inspection plans, measurement procedures and work instructions to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
  • Load components, fixtures and test setups safely and correctly for inspection.
  • Record and upload inspection results, checking outputs for errors and repeating measurements where required.
  • Maintain accurate digital records to support component traceability and raise non-conformances promptly.
  • Work to daily and weekly priorities, communicating progress, delays and issues effectively.
  • Support routine equipment checks, housekeeping and calibration-related activities.
  • Work in accordance with quality management systems, health and safety requirements and good metrology practice.
  • Remain flexible to changing production, inspection and project priorities.
About You

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.
  • The ability to follow technical work instructions, inspection plans and established processes accurately.
  • Confidence working with technical equipment, components and fixtures.
  • Good organisation and the ability to work effectively to agreed priorities.
  • A practical, hands-on attitude with a willingness to learn new equipment and processes.
  • Confidence using computer-based systems to operate equipment and record results.

Previous experience within metrology, quality inspection, testing, manufacturing, engineering or a laboratory environment would be advantageous.

Exposure to structured light scanning, CMM, XCT, tensile testing or other high-accuracy inspection equipment would be beneficial, as would experience reading engineering drawings and working with controlled processes involving quality, calibration or traceability.

What's on Offer?

This is an opportunity to join an innovative advanced manufacturing environment, working with sophisticated inspection technology and complex engineered components.

The position offers excellent scope to develop your technical knowledge and build a longer-term career within Metrology, Quality and advanced manufacturing.
