Job summary

Alloyed, based near Oxford, is seeking a Metrology Operator to join the inspection team. You will operate automated and semi-automated metrology equipment, run established programs, and support calibration and traceability within the quality system.

Reporting to the Metrology Manager in Abingdon, you’ll work as part of a diligent team to maintain accuracy, meet daily plans, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced metal manufacturing environment.

  • Comfortable operating technical equipment and working with fixtures, components, and measurement setups.
  • Organised and able to work to a plan, prioritising work effectively and communicating progress clearly.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to changing daily priorities and team requirements.
  • High level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Operate metrology equipment and run established measurement programs across relevant workstations, including GOM and tensile testing, with potential future support for CMM, XCT, and Alicona workstations.
  • Follow defined measurement routines, inspection plans, and work instructions to ensure repeatable and accurate results.
  • Load components, fixtures, and test setups correctly, ensuring parts are handled safely and positioned consistently for measurement.
  • Work to the agreed daily and weekly plan, communicating progress, delays, or issues clearly to the Metrology Manager and Production Planning team.
  • Interact with digital route cards, ensuring that progress of components is tracked effectively and any non-conformances are raised in a timely manner.
  • Ensure results are correctly output and uploaded for online processing, reviewing results for errors and repeating measurements where required.
  • Support basic equipment checks, housekeeping, and calibration-related activities to maintain traceability and readiness of the inspection area.
  • Remain flexible and support changing priorities depending on production, inspection, and project requirements.
  • Adhere to quality system requirements, safety standards, and good measurement practice at all times.
  • Conduct other quality inspections as required, to ensure a high quality output.

Alloyed is seeking a Metrology Operator to join our organisation. Your primary responsibilities will be to operate automated and semi-automated metrology equipment, run established measurement programs, follow defined inspection routines, and load components and fixtures correctly and safely. You will work within the inspection team to support the efficient, accurate, and timely measurement of components.

You will work closely with the metrology, and operations teams, reporting directly to the Metrology Manager in Abingdon where this role will be based. Success in this role will depend on working consistently to the daily plan, maintaining high attention to detail, and being flexible when priorities change depending on the day’s requirements. Training will be provided as required.

Desired Skills

  • Experience operating or supporting metrology, inspection, testing, or other high-accuracy technical equipment
  • Experience with structured light scanning, CMM, XCT, tensile testing, Alicona, or similar inspection equipment
  • Previous experience working in a production, inspection, laboratory, manufacturing, or engineering environment
  • Basic ability to read engineering drawings or understand dimensional inspection requirements
  • Experience loading components into fixtures, following work instructions, or working with repeatable test routines
  • Understanding of quality, traceability, calibration, or controlled process requirements
  • Confidence using computers to run equipment software, record results, and maintain inspection logs
  • Interest in developing metrology skills and progressing into more advanced inspection activities over time
