Job summary

Alloyed is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support maintenance of manufacturing and laboratory equipment at the Yarnton facility, near Oxford. You will perform preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement to keep production reliable and safe.

The role requires practical experience across mechanical and electrical systems, with an ability to read schematics and engineering drawings, and to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Maintenance Technician or Engineer in a manufacturing/engineering environment.

  • Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience planning and carrying out preventative maintenance.

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support the operation, reliability, and continual improvement of manufacturing and laboratory equipment within our Yarnton facility.

Working closely with other engineers, technicians, and operational teams, you will be responsible for maintaining equipment performance through a combination of planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role requires a practical engineer with experience across both mechanical and electrical systems who enjoys solving problems and working in a fast-paced technical environment.

Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Reliability
  • Repair faults and respond as the first point of contact for equipment breakdowns.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, modification, and relocation of equipment.
  • Work from electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation to support fault finding and repairs.
Planned Preventative Maintenance
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance programmes to maximise equipment availability.
  • Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and replacement of worn components.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and equipment histories.
  • Support the development and continual improvement of maintenance schedules and procedures.
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide technical support to engineers, technicians, and operational teams.
  • Advise on equipment-related issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aimed at improving equipment reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Assist with root cause investigations following equipment failures.
Automation & Control Systems
  • Support fault-finding activities on PLC-controlled equipment and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting sensors, control devices, safety systems, and associated automation equipment.
  • Work alongside specialist engineers and suppliers to support maintenance and upgrades of automated equipment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Follow safe systems of work and support a strong health and safety culture.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with site procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Participate in risk assessments and safe working practices relating to electrical, compressed air, gas, vacuum, and pressurised systems.
  • Maintain a safe, organised, and efficient working environment.
Essential Skills
  • Previous experience in a Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Service Technician, or similar role.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering, or technical environment.
  • Strong fault-finding skills across both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements within an industrial environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
Desired Skills
  • Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Electrical qualification such as 18th Edition or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting PLC-controlled, automated, or semi-automated equipment.
  • Experience with pneumatics, compressed air systems, vacuum systems, cooling systems, or gas distribution systems.
  • Experience supporting laboratory, advanced manufacturing, or additive manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with CMMS or maintenance management software.
  • Full UK driving license.
