Metrology Applications Engineer

Department: Sempre Technical Delivery

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Description

We have developed to improve efficiency across the whole quality and production process with high-speed technology and digitalisation and automation of manual processes. We achieve this with quality management software, data control and analysis technology as well as our wide range of metrology solutions from our global manufacturing partners. We provide equipment as well as services such as calibration, sub-contract measurement, training, and metrology consultancy.

The Sempre Group is a subsidiary of Oxford Metrics since October 2024.

We're looking for an experienced, competent engineering professional who can adapt to various challenging technical scenarios and provide comprehensive solutions to customers. A proactive team player who is good in front of clients, whilst being technically competent. A background in mechanical or science is a must, and metrology experience is vital.

Job Purpose

  1. Manages and delivers client metrology projects on time, to a high technical standard and to the satisfaction of Sempre clients.
  2. Underpin Sempre's position as a technically excellent metrology solutions provider through delivery of equipment demonstrations and technical proposals.
  3. Support the sale and implementation of metrology equipment and projects through pre and post sales work.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Developing and delivering metrology solutions to Sempre's client base in medical, automotive, and aerospace applications.
  2. Designing and developing metrology fixtures, producing engineering drawings and manufacturing data. Testing and producing robust, reproducible metrology programs to clients.
  3. Owning and running custom projects, developing solid delivery plans, managing customer expectations, organizing and coordinating with service and operations team for smooth delivery.
  4. Solving technical challenges which arise in projects with support from the team, proactively and with urgency.
  5. Work with the sales team to deliver on-site and in-house demonstrations of Sempre's portfolio of metrology systems and develop a solution based on the outcome the customer requires.
  6. Coordinate with other Technical Delivery Team members.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Qualifications

  1. Bachelors / Masters in Mechanical Engineering or relevant science.

Essential

  1. 2 - 5 years working as a metrologist, metrology applications engineer, or quality engineer.
  2. Working metrology knowledge, including calibration uncertainty, Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T), and Measurement Systems Analysis.
  3. Programming metrology systems e.g. CMMs, vision systems.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills to deal with the challenging technical demands of clients.
  5. Project management knowledge.
  6. Strong organization and communication skills.
  7. Proficient in Solidworks or similar CAD package.
  8. Clean full driving license.

Desirable

  1. Robotics or industrial automation experience.
  2. Software and programming experience.
  3. Commercial awareness.
  4. Mechanical design of Metrology Fixtures.
