The Pre-Construction Buildability – Project Engineer role

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Project Engineer will focus on developing practical, efficient, and safe construction methods. As a growing discipline in the UK, it offers strong progression opportunities.

You'll be responsible for supporting the ‘methods' team, including:

  • Reviewing and contributing to the constructability of the permanent design.
  • Drawing up the structural works execution strategy.
  • Developing a preparation schedule for Methods and Plant.
  • Participating in technical/price studies for different construction solutions for the structure.
  • Setting execution methods (methods sequencing, operating procedures, phasing, cycles) in line with the Programme and the Quality-Safety-Environment rules.
  • Carrying out studies regarding site installations and lifting equipment, working closely with the lifting team.
  • Determining all plant resources needed for steelwork erection, cladding installation, M&E logistical movements, and safety.
  • Monitoring and inspecting manufacturers of special plant/equipment: consultation, ordering, checking calculation notes and fabrication drawings, acceptance in factory, dummy assembly, packaging.
  • Managing the Methods technicians/engineers and draughtsperson.
  • Monitoring technical risks (Methods) of the project.

Your profile

  • Engineering Degree qualified, preferably with a construction engineering industry-related Professional membership (e.g., ICE, IStructE, MCIOB).
  • Experience working on large construction projects (£100 million+).
  • Knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite.
  • AutoCAD skills to review or sketch designs are preferred, but the ability to learn software quickly with training is acceptable.
  • Strong coordination and negotiation skills.
  • Technical knowledge with a commercial mindset.
  • Methodical, authoritative, tenacious, and responsible.
  • Business capabilities include: Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving, Decision Making, Influencing & Negotiation, Interpersonal Ability, Planning & Organising, Technology & Process, Verbal and Written Communication.
