The Methods Team is a dedicated pre-construction function vital in reducing safety, construction, and commercial risks.

The Pre-Construction Buildability – Project Engineer role

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Project Engineer will focus on developing practical, efficient, and safe construction methods. As a growing discipline in the UK, it offers strong progression opportunities.

You'll be responsible for supporting the ‘methods' team, including:

  • Reviewing and providing input on the constructability of the permanent design.
  • Drawing up the structural works execution strategy.
  • Developing a preparation schedule for Methods and Plant.
  • Participating in technical and price studies for different construction solutions.
  • Setting execution methods (sequencing, operating procedures, phasing, cycles) aligned with the Programme and safety, quality, and environmental rules.
  • Conducting studies regarding site installations and lifting equipment, working closely with the lifting team.
  • Determining plant resources needed for steelwork erection, cladding installation, M&E logistical movements, and safety.
  • Monitoring and inspecting manufacturers of special plant/equipment, including consultation, ordering, checking calculations and fabrication drawings, factory acceptance, dummy assembly, and packaging.
  • Managing Methods technicians, engineers, and draughtspersons.
  • Monitoring technical risk studies related to Methods.

Your profile

  • Engineering Degree qualified, preferably with a construction engineering industry-related professional membership (e.g., ICE, IStructE, MCIOB).
  • Experience working on large construction projects (£100 million+).
  • Knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite.
  • AutoCAD skills to review or sketch designs are preferred, but the ability to learn software quickly with training is acceptable.
  • Strong coordination and negotiation skills.
  • Technical knowledge combined with a commercial mindset.
  • Methodical, authoritative, tenacious, and responsible.
  • Business capabilities including analytical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, influencing, negotiation, interpersonal skills, planning, organizing, technology, process understanding, and communication skills.
