Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it’s what’s behind every job here.
Our work keeps Scotland’s water flowing, from reservoir to tap – and from sewer to treatment plant.
We are looking for Metering Technicians to join our Customer Excellence and Resilience Team in the following locations:
In this role, you'll work mainly alone from sites, so self-motivation is essential. You'll be part of a team with extensive experience, managing proactive and reactive wholesale activities across Scotland. Our goal? To become a 'Great Wholesaler' by collaborating effectively with the Wholesale Service Desk, Revenue & Wholesale teams, and our Alliance Partners. You will also work with other internal and external stakeholders as needed.
What you’ll do
Your primary responsibility is resolving customer issues by investigating problems, proposing solutions, and keeping customers updated. You will carry out routine repairs and maintenance on metering assets, prioritizing health and safety, conducting risk assessments, and audits on our Alliance Partners, including completing the DOMS Impact Assessment Form.
You will conduct surveys to understand customer water and wastewater supply arrangements, including complex sites and dye testing. Plumbing skills for meter installations, exchanges, and disconnections are advantageous.
Accurate report writing from field visits is crucial to provide License Providers with necessary information. Meeting targets for metering tasks is also part of your role.
What you’ll need
Excellent customer service skills, preferably with plumbing knowledge. Knowledge of relevant regulations such as the Sewerage Scotland Act, Water Scotland Act, and Health and Safety at Work Act is required. Strong IT skills and excellent communication skills are essential, as you'll be using digital tools and apps daily. Report writing skills are also important.
Flexibility to work across various locations is necessary. Knowledge of DOMS policies, Hygiene Code of Practice, Streetworks (NRSWA), and a valid UK driver’s license are required. Additional desirable skills include familiarity with Salesforce/Youreka, GIS/Geofield/Field Maps, and Microsoft Office applications.
Looking out for you
We prioritize your work-life balance by offering 38 days of holiday annually (including public holidays), with the option to buy extra days. The role involves some weekend work. We support family-friendly policies, flexible working arrangements, and provide benefits like a pension, life assurance, annual bonuses, and access to SW Splash discounts.
The not-so-small print
This role is classified as Grade 5, with a starting salary of £29,800, progressing to £35,760 based on performance. Applications are open until midnight on Sunday 8th June 2025. Please specify your preferred location(s) and include a cover letter explaining your suitability for the role.
