Job description

Hybrid, London | Full time | £35,000 to £45,000 dependent on experience, plus equity options

The role

A role with a lot of responsibility. You will be the meteorologist inside the product: making sure the data we ingest is sound, the methodology is fair, and the evaluations we send to customers are correct and easy to understand. You will report to the CEO and work day to day with the CTO. The scope is broad: in a given week you might source a new observation dataset, stress-test a verification method, and write the report a customer uses to choose a provider.

What you will do
  • Source and assess weather observation data: national weather station networks, third-party observation APIs and customer-side data
  • Ingest and quality-check forecast data from commercial weather providers via their APIs, working with the software team on pipelines
  • Maintain a fair verification methodology: hits, misses, false alarms, hit rate, overall skill (CSI), forecast tendency (bias) and warning lead across providers, thresholds and lead times
  • Develop clear, succinct methodology options that customers can understand and choose between
  • Analyse large datasets (millions of forecast rows per month) to produce provider evaluations
  • Prepare customer-facing reports in plain scientific language, stating confidence, sample sizes and limitations
  • Contribute to product decisions: which metrics we show and how we explain them
What you will need
  • A degree in meteorology, atmospheric science or a closely related field
  • A working understanding of forecast verification and what makes an evaluation fair
  • Data analysis skills, ideally in Python, and comfort with APIs and large datasets
  • Clear, concise writing: our reports go straight to customers
  • Business orientation: the analysis has to help a customer make a decision
  • Initiative: you spot problems, propose fixes and follow through, and you ask for help when you need it
  • The right to work in the UK
