Metals Correspondent - Reuters

Reuters is looking for an outstanding journalist with exceptional source-building skills to uncover the industrial metal sector’s most important stories, delving deep into what is usually an opaque and secretive industry.

From the energy transition to squeezes at the London Metal Exchange, metals fraud, warehousing scandals, sanctions on major producer Russia and top consumer China and the global push to secure resources. This is the perfect role for an ambitious correspondent looking to work on a wide metals beat.

Based in London, the position offers the opportunity to report on industrial metals around the world. The successful candidate will produce stories, building a substantial spot news file, writing daily market reports and delivering exclusives and other enterprise stories.

About the Role

As a Metals Correspondent at Reuters, you will:

  • Break exclusives and write agenda-setting stories on metals production, pricing and trade flow.

  • Report on metals markets and pricing, fundamentals, suppliers, buyers, traders and their strategies.

  • Generate ideas for initiative stories from Exclusives and Special Reports to Analysis, Insights and Focus.

  • Work with other reporters/editors in bureaus and globally on major stories in the metals sectors.

  • Write stories that cut through industry jargon for both professional and media audiences.

  • Be able to connect the dots and explain the significance of industry and market developments

  • Identify trends and explain them to a global audience.

About You

To be our Metals Correspondent,you will have:

  • A track record of exceptional source building skills.

  • Experience of covering the metals industry, its idiosyncrasies and its occupants.

  • Knowledge of how the London Metal Exchange and physical metal markets and how they interact.

  • Exceptional news judgement and story conceptualization.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Appetite for investigative reporting.

  • Excellent communication skills and a team player with a collaborative approach to coverage.
