Job summary

Richards Sheet Metal in Nelson is offering a hands-on Metal Fabricator Apprentice position designed to develop practical skills within a busy workshop. You will train toward welding components and castings, learning MIG and TIG welding to high standards, and gain experience with sheet metal fabrication.

You'll cover basics such as engineering drawings, measuring and marking out, and materials knowledge, with additional hand-skills and component production training as you progress.

Qualifications

• Training to complete the Metal Fabricator Standard will be provided.
• L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) and L3 Extended Diploma will be pursued during the apprenticeship.

Richards Sheet Metal originally started business as traditional tin bashers back in 1973. Donald Richards started the business to better serve the local cluster of industries around Nelson and Burnley. They are a long-established, family-run SME with a strong reputation for quality and reliability in their field. They are now looking for a motivated and hands-on Fabrication Apprentice to join their team to develop practical skills within a supportive workshop environment.

Fabricators use a large range of metals including steel, aluminium and titanium at a range of thicknesses from 0.5mm up to over 20mm.

The successful candidate will train and become competent at welding, components and castings, learning to weld both MIG & TIG to a very high standard.

You will also be trained to learn:

• Basic engineering drawing.

• Measuring and marking out.

• Knowledge of engineering materials.

• Handling of engineering information.

Additional skills covered may include:

• Fitting using hand skills.

• Producing sheet metal components and assemblies using a range of welding techniques and principles.

Your job role will consist of different tasks such as:

• Welding components.

• Welding Castings.

• MIG and TIG.

Training to be provided

The apprentice will be working towards completing the Metal Fabricator Standard which will include the following:

• L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)

• L3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
