Role Purpose

To challenge and collaborate with the buying teams to make commercially sound decisions regarding stock that maximize sales, margin, and income while minimizing stock risk. To explore and implement department, business, and cross-functional strategies through category analysis and planning.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan the optimal range/assortment by store group in collaboration with the buying team.
  2. Own and manage the range review process, ensuring adherence to the critical path.
  3. Manage category stock budgets, ensuring continuous review and optimization of stock quality.
  4. Effectively manage discontinued lines to minimize margin impact.
  5. Support strategic direction for space planning and associated budget impacts.
  6. Set customer-focused merchandising principles, ensuring fixtures align with category and business guidelines.
  7. Analyze trials and initiatives to provide insights and suggest next steps proactively.
  8. Undertake various other tasks and support team members as required.
  9. Participate in business projects, liaising with departments like finance, data insights, marketing, supply chain, property, and store operations.

Requirements

You will have experience in merchandising or a related area (e.g., demand planning, category insight). You should demonstrate:

  • Good verbal reasoning skills and the ability to interpret and present data clearly.
  • Numerical and analytical proficiency.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and solution-oriented mindset.
  • An aptitude to challenge the status quo and identify misleading figures.
  • Team focus and collaboration skills.
  • Customer-centric approach.
  • Confidence with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and proficiency with spreadsheets.
