Job summary

Arup is seeking an MEP Project Lead Engineer within the Building Engineering team. You will shape and deliver major rail and transport projects, leading technical delivery, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and creating lasting value for clients and communities.

You will lead with an electrical/MEP background, build trusted client relationships, and drive progress, risks, and mitigation across time, cost, and quality targets.

Qualifications

• Chartered engineer with multidisciplinary MEP design knowledge.
• Experience delivering transport or rail projects in a consultancy environment.
• Understanding of major rail standards and MEP design delivery requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary design teams from project inception through completion.
• Oversee MEP design production, assurance and compliance with rail standards (HS2, TfL, Network Rail).
• Act as Electrical Technical Advisor where required; electrical background advantageous.
• Manage design programmes and resources with project planners and discipline leads.
• Support bids, business development and future rail sector capability development.
• Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, regulations and industry best practice.

As an MEP Project Lead Engineer within our Building Engineering team, you will help shape and deliver major rail and transport projects across the region and globally. Working with experienced colleagues across Arup, you will lead technical delivery, support multidisciplinary teams and contribute to work that creates lasting value for clients, communities and the built environment.

Our current and recent portfolio includes HS2 Interchange Station, rail depots for TfL, and aviation hubs for major transport clients. These projects span early feasibility through to practical completion, offering excellent opportunities to develop your leadership, technical and client-facing skills.

This is a visible leadership opportunity in a growing sector. Your MEP engineering expertise, particularly within rail environments, will help strengthen our transport capability, set technical direction and support teams to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients including HS2, TfL, Network Rail and local or regional transport organisations.

You will be supported by strong geographical discipline teams and Arup’s global skills networks, giving you access to knowledge, research and collaboration across the firm.

As a technical leader, you will build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders. You will communicate progress, risks and issues clearly, propose practical mitigation measures, and support delivery against agreed time, cost, quality and safety objectives.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Lead multidisciplinary design teams from project inception through to completion

• Act as Electrical Technical Advisor where required, with an electrical engineering background being advantageous

• Support bids, business development and the future shaping of rail sector skills and resources across Arup
• Maintain awareness of relevant legislation, regulations and industry good practice

We Are Looking For People Who

• Are a Chartered Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with strong multidisciplinary MEP design knowledge; an electrical engineering background is preferred
• Have proven experience managing and delivering transport or rail projects within a consultancy environment
• Understand major rail standards, assurance processes and MEP design delivery requirements
• Demonstrate strong leadership, communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to represent Arup externally and contribute to bids that secure new work
• Have experience leading engineering teams through design and construction stages, working confidently with clients, contractors and wider project stakeholders
