Working across complex built-environment projects, the consultancy combines MEP design with energy modelling, BIM and innovative approaches to energy, heat, cooling and resource management.

Opportunity

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced MEP professional to join a growing consultancy and play a significant role in shaping its technical direction.

Reporting directly to the founding Directors, you will lead a small multidisciplinary MEP team and take responsibility for the delivery of technically ambitious projects. The role combines hands-on engineering, project leadership, team management and client engagement, with considerable autonomy and direct involvement in decision-making.

You will lead the development of integrated MEP solutions designed to achieve ambitious energy and carbon outcomes, including the incorporation of low-carbon plant, energy storage, resource-sharing strategies and the reuse of waste heat and water.

The position would suit an experienced Mechanical or Electrical Building Services Engineer looking for greater influence over how projects are designed and delivered within a smaller, agile consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Lead the MEP design and delivery of complex projects, including energy-positive and net-zero schemes
• Develop integrated low-carbon plant, storage and energy-sharing strategies
• Identify opportunities to convert waste heat, water and other waste streams into usable on-site resources
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary MEP team of approximately 3–5 engineers
• Coordinate designs with architects, clients and other project stakeholders
• Ensure designs incorporate relevant UK net-zero, Building Regulations, planning and circular-economy requirements
• Take responsibility for project programmes, MEP budgets and energy-performance targets
• Support projects through planning and Building Control approval
• Promote coordinated, technically robust and innovative engineering solutions
• Contribute to the continued development of the consultancy’s technical capability and approach

The role carries responsibility for delivering projects to programme and budget while achieving demanding energy-performance objectives.

Requirements

• Chartered Mechanical or Electrical Engineer
• 10+ years’ experience delivering MEP solutions for complex buildings
• Strong experience of energy-positive, net-zero or highly sustainable building projects
• Experience delivering projects where designed energy-performance outcomes have been demonstrated in operation
• Practical experience of incorporating waste heat, water or other resource-recovery strategies into building designs
• Proven ability to lead and develop small engineering teams
• Strong multidisciplinary coordination skills and experience working with architects and clients
• Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant planning requirements
• Knowledge of circular-economy principles and their application within the built environment
• Comfortable operating within a growing, fast-moving consultancy environment with significant autonomy
