Job description

This post is a key role within the 24/7 Mental Health First Response service, serving as the first point of contact for individuals requiring urgent mental health support. The Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioners provide effective mental health support to callers experiencing a crisis, including triage, risk assessments, and brief psychosocial interventions. Working via telephone and video calls, practitioners offer compassionate conversations and promote self-management of emotional distress. They recognize when additional support is necessary, such as a crisis assessment or ongoing care, and coordinate with appropriate services.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing initial risk and mental health triage assessments based on current evidence and policies.
  2. Delivering supportive responses to individuals in mental health crisis or emotional distress.
  3. Managing workload efficiently within a busy environment.
  4. Understanding processes for handovers to other services.
  5. Communicating workload concerns to line managers.
  6. Adapting dynamically to changes in the work environment.

Desirable skills include basic Welsh speaking and listening at Level 3 (CEFR B2). Applicants from outside the UK or Ireland should consider sponsorship requirements. All applications are welcomed in Welsh or English. The role is subject to checks, including DBS and professional registration verification.
