Job description

Mental Health, Therapy and Intervention Assistant - Woking - Social Care - SEMH - Graduate - Psychology - Criminology

Are you looking to kick-start your career in the Mental Health Sector?

Are you looking for a role where you can support the mental health of young people?

Are you passionate about restorative approaches? Are you passionate about demonstrating the value of education to vulnerable children?

A well-respected specialist school near Woking is looking for a Mental Health, Therapy and Intervention Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students range between 7 and 16 years old and face a range of SEMH needs and challenges including trauma, anxiety, OCD, and behavioural issues. Some children/young people will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will identify their risks and needs, escalating where necessary. Many of the children face various barriers in life and are more ‘at risk’ of negative outcomes. You will be instrumental in building relationships, providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life, reducing the risk of them entering the criminal justice system.

The students therefore need a Mental Health Teaching Assistant who will be dedicated to being a consistent role model, is committed to building strong relationships, is empathetic, and up for a challenge!

The ideal Mental Health, Therapy and Intervention Assistant must be open-minded, resilient, and knowledgeable about mental health. The perfect candidate will have experience with SEN children and/or adults in any setting. Graduates in Social Care, Psychology, Criminology, or Counselling would also be perfect for this position. Being local to Woking is a bonus.

Based on holistic and therapeutic practice, with a focus on restorative practice, this role will give you essential restorative experience within anti-social and challenging settings. If you are looking to kick-start your career in Psychology, Mental Health, Law Enforcement, or Education, then this Mental Health Teaching Assistant role is the perfect opportunity for you. You really will be having a positive impact on the lives of children and young people who need it most.

Start date: ASAP
Salary: £85-£110 per day, Mon-Fri, 8.30am-4pm, term time only
Training: Excellent on-site training, support, and CPD is provided to ensure safeguarding of all students
Requirements: You MUST have the right to work in the UK in order to apply - no Visa sponsorship
Location: Must be able to travel to Woking and surrounding areas
