Mental Health Team Leader

This is an exciting time to join The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as we seek to strengthen the provision of care to patients with a mental health diagnosis. As a visible and charasmatic leader, you will galvanise the RMN team to deliver high-quality, timely care to patients.

The post will involve the day to day oversight of RMNs working throughout the organisation ensuring that they are supported to deliver high-quality care to patients. You will be able to provide expert advice and guidance regarding the care of patients with a primary and secondary mental health diagnosis whilst receiving care in the acute setting.

You will work with partners across the local health economy to ensure that patients are receiving timely care and that delays to care are appropriately escalated. You will advocate for patients and staff.

The post holder will also lead on recruitment, retention and development of the RMN team, whether they are substantive or temporary staff. The post holder will also ensure that RMNs working in the organisation receive appropriate clinical supervision.

This role will contribute to the development of policy and strategy. In role you will be supported by a Lead Nurse and Senior Lead Nurse for Mental Health.

Job responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide visible leadership for RMNs working across the Trust.
  • Work alongside ward and department leaders to ensure high-quality patient-centred care is delivered at all times.
  • Advocate for patients, their families and carers.
  • Oversee the daily provision of a specialist RMN and enhanced observation service for patients across the Trust.

Staff Management

  • Support with the recruitment of RMNs, both substantive and bank.
  • Investigate incidents, complaints and concerns involving RMNs and identify and support appropriate outcomes and sharing of learning.
  • Provide education, both formal and informal, to staff to cultivate an environment which is continuously learning.
  • Undertake PDRs, sickness reviews, absence management and performance management as necessary to support team development and productivity.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate plans of care for individual and groups of patients.
  • Work with the MDT to ensure that patients are receiving timely, safe and appropriate care.
  • Respond to calls for concern in regards to patients with mental health needs and provide specialist input. Escalate concerns appropriately and seek further assistance where needed.
  • Develop protocols for the care of mental health patients in liaison with other members of the MDT (including those working in other organisations).
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues in regards to the care of patients with mental health needs.
  • Involve patients in their care and planning of their care.
  • Maintain contemporaneous and appropriate nursing documentation.
