Job summary

Academics is seeking a caring Mental Health Teaching Assistant at a specialist school in Chippenham, Wiltshire, working with children aged 5-16 with autism and SEMH needs. You will support emotions, engagement, and learning within a multidisciplinary team.

The role offers practical experience in education, mental health, psychology and therapy settings, with salary range £85-£110 per day and PAYE weekly pay. September 2026 start.

Qualifications

• Compassionate, patient, reliable and emotionally resilient.
• Comfortable building professional relationships with children and staying calm under pressure.
• Experience in education, childcare, mental health, SEND, youth work, care or support work is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support tailored to each child.
• Help children recognise and communicate their emotions.
• Support children with anxiety, low confidence, emotional dysregulation or social difficulties.
• Promote positive behaviour with calm, consistent approaches.
• Develop communication, social skills, confidence and independence.
