Job Title: Mental Health Teaching Assistant

Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour

GSL Education have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant in a local school based in Lytchett Minster.

About the Role:

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you'll support students facing mental health challenges, helping them navigate their education. Collaborating with teachers and families, you'll create a nurturing environment that addresses each student's emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored assistance to students with complex needs related to mental health, anxiety, and behaviour, ensuring effective implementation of their EHCPs.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to develop an inclusive and engaging curriculum that addresses mental health and behavioural challenges across various subjects, including outdoor education.
  • Create a nurturing learning atmosphere that promotes social, emotional, and mental well-being, specifically targeting anxiety and behavioural issues.
  • Dispense medications in accordance with school policy and specialist techniques, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Provide intimate and personal care, including hygiene and bathing, while maintaining the highest standards of dignity and respect.
  • Encourage and enable students to achieve a high level of independence in daily activities.
  • Under the direction of the class teacher, support students in engaging in classroom activities to their fullest potential, employing appropriate total communication techniques.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to drive to the school is preferred, and having personal transport will be considered an added advantage.
  • Previous experience of working with children or young people, particularly in managing challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Empathy, patience, and a proactive approach to supporting students.
  • Commitment to promoting positive behavioural outcomes and inclusivity.
  • A patient and understanding approach when facing challenging behaviour.
  • A proactive and open mindset, working in a multidisciplinary team.
